Jasmine I.

We absolutely love this restaurant..The food is fantastic! 10/10 definitely recommend. I personally feel like it's the best Indian cuisine in Bakersfield. I love how lowkey the location is. The service was very quick. We basically had the whole place to ourselves other than the people coming to pick up their food.

I didn't want to give it a 4 but I will say it is a solid 4.5 for me and it's simply because of how my order came in and the fact that the Gajjar Halwa wasn't what I was expecting and they didn't have Badami Kheer. We started with Vegetable Samosa and the Fish Pakora. I have never tasted fish that the way they cooked it. It was not oily at all and was packed with so much flavor. The green sauce paired very well with the fish, but I also dumped it in the sweet sauce, and surprisingly, it went well like chicken and waffles. Very chill vibe, and I didn't hear the kitchen, which was surprising. We ordered Goat Curry, Fish Masala, Chicken Makhni, aka butter chicken, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Kabab, and Garlic Naan for our main food. Our dessert was Gajar Halwa and Gulab Jamun. To drink, I had a Mango Lassi and a Masala Chia. Fish Masala, Fish Pakora, and Sekh Kabab were, in my opinion, the tastiest of all. Not to say the rest didn't shine in their own ways. Just those three dishes did make my taste buds go crazy. The Tandoori Chicken was loved by all, and my youngest is 6 years old. The Garlic Naan was so good, and the fact that everything is freshly made is amazing. The Naan was very much appreciated because it has that authentic baked flavor. The Chicken Biryani was packed with chicken it was so fulfilling . Chicken Makhni is always a safe bet. Just dip the naan and enjoy. I did enjoy the goat curry, but I was expecting it to be a little softer not to say it was tough not saying at all but I'm mexican and the way we cooke our goat it melts in your mouth. I wish my tea came with the food and not served at the end because I would've loved to sip and taste all the flavors at once. The Mango Lassi was refreshing. It was my first time trying it. I thought it was a mango shake‍ but it's actually a yogurt ‍. Either way, it was really wonderful. I actually met the owner at work. I told him how I ate at another Indian restaurant, and he recommended I try his and I did and I'm glad because it didn't disappoint. The waitresses are very respectful, asking if they can take your plate instead of just grabbing and helping place the plates in a way to make it all fit. Not like in other restaurants where they expect you to do all the work. Please give this place a visit if you enjoy supporting local businesses and want full flavored food.

Of all the cuisines to choose from, Indian is probably one of the last ones I would think of to eat, let alone suggest for others to try with me if I'm out and about. Aside from the occasional work parties where Indian food is served to accommodate our employee base, I probably eat Indian food once a year, every other year. Working in rural Lamont, CA however, there's not much to choose from aside from your franchise fast food stops or your mom & pop Mexican restaurants. So if you're looking to add variety to your daily lunch routine, you can call to order at Indian Oven. Located in an unassuming truck stop along Weedpatch Hwy, you'd probably miss this location if you're not paying close attention. As you enter, your senses will immediately recognize the blended scents of roasted Indian spices. For my first time and being that I wanted something easy to eat like a handheld sammie, I opted for the Tandoori Chicken Wrap. I thought I'd be getting a 6-inch wrap but as you can see, the wrap was almost as long as the keyboard (shown for reference purposes). Let me tell you, this wrap weighed at least a good 3.5-4.0 lbs. As you can see from the cross section, the wrap is filled with chicken breast pieces that were sautéed with tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, and spices. You can choose from either the plain or garlic naan. I opted for the garlic naan although I didn't get much of the garlic flavor from it. Overall, the wrap was solid and had a good amount of heat. I also ordered Vegetable Samosas which are completely vegetarian. They were crispy pouches filled with mildly spiced potatoes and peas and deep fried til golden brown. It came with the green chutney and tamarind sauce for dipping. The highlight of this meal was definitely the chutney which was refreshing and packed with heat. You can taste the cilantro and mint combo which when eaten with the samosa added a burst of freshness. I found the samosa was too filling and dense. My total came out to $12.97 which is not bad for the amount of food you get. I actually just ate about 1/3 of the wrap and 1 of the samosas and I was already full. If you happen to be passing along Hwy 58 and the craving for Indian food strikes, exit Weedpatch Hwy and have yourself a snack. This place is also open from 6:00 am - 10:00 pm which is great for travelers and locals looking for a delicious filling meal

Great food and service. Portion is plenty for 4 to 5 people. I would definitely recommend it. Also, their Chai seems to be very popular.

I can't stop eating the paneer butter masala (surprising to absolutely no one), and the garlic naan. If you're brave, get it spicy-- it will blow your face off, but in a good way (like a hot kiss instead of a bomb). But be warned-- their drinks come in cans and if it's super hot, you may need to order more than one, lol. I impressed my company by not needing to drink much during my spicy meal, and yes this is a casual heat tolerance brag, I'm sorry! Anyway, the service is really wonderful even if the communication can be a little rusty because I'm a basic monolingual bish. They just want you to enjoy your food and your time with them, so don't be shy and ask questions if you're unsure about something you're ordering. They have vegan and vegetarian options. I've only gone with meat eaters and they have not been disappointed. This is one of the best restaurants in Bakersfield and I'm worried people are totally asleep at the wheel on this one. They deserve your support, they're family run and worthy of your time and money! Other awesome things to try: dal, any breads, egg rolls, any green curry.

We ordered chole bhature, shahi paneer, butter naan, pani poori, and samosa chaat. The bhature were incredibly soft, almost like a pillow. The mango lassi tasted fresh and natural, without that artificial pulp flavor you sometimes get. The chaas was also refreshing and balanced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The chef needs to give the butter on the side or open the butter out of its pack otherwise it's super unhygienic!

My GF loves Indian food and extra spicy, but for me it's not a usually a top choice. JBV however is completely different. I'm only in Bakersfield a few days a month but I always try and squeeze in a meal at Jay Bhavani because the food is outstanding. The flavor and texture of each dish is dialed to perfection and the quality is consistently top notch. The servers are always friendly (shout out to Nirav) and they give helpful descriptions/recommendations if, like me, you aren't super familiar with the wide variety of dishes they serve. My favorites are the JB Special Dosa and Vada Pav (great for eating on the go) The food is always made to order and fresh. They also have beer on draft or glass bottled soda (the good stuff) to wash it down with. My spice tolerance is relatively high, but they do offer many dishes mild/no spice by request for those that can't handle the heat. The digs are humble so you won't mistake this place for fine dining, but the important stuff (THE FOOD and SERVICE) are right up there with the best in Bakersfield.
