Place has a really nice atmosphere, it's small, but really cute inside. The menu has a HUGE variety - Pizza, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Tex Mex. I've really missed Tex Mex so knew what I was going to get ahead of time. Service was great and everyone was friendly! Had the (small) Nachos to start - actual melted cheese on it! Although the cucumbers threw me off :) and got the Prawn Fajitas - yum! My dining partner had the Chicken Chili Burrito it was huge! Portions are big and price isn't bad. I will definitely return!

In fact, as Elliott Castro says, it doesn't do food or a huge range of drinks, especially if you're not drinking alcohol, but that's really not why you come here. You come here for the atmosphere. I'm no expert, but it really seems to be the most 'Irish' pub of all the 'Irish' pubs I've seen on my travels, both in Oxford and elsewhere (including, strangely enough, Dublin!). It's really warm and lively and great, great fun. It can be a little daunting going in the first time to see groups of regulars there, but behind the boisterous appearance, people are generally pretty friendly. They do live music on Sunday nights and often host folk music events. Don't knock it till you've tried it! It is the sort of place where you go to have background music to your conversation, though; if someone's playing a song, you listen. This is a really refreshing change - I always feel a bit awkward talking over musicians in other situations, and there's plenty of chance to chat otherwise. Go and check it out, but don't tell too many people - it's great just as it is!

On one hand, seating outside is great- as you breath fresh air and also there was the only way you could be with your friends in autumn 2020. Food/drinks were great, I really enjoyed my pancake. What I found strange, is that they had a DJ who was playing very loudly, so we had to shout at each other - and if I remember correct playing loud music is against covid regulations, precisely for the reason of eliminating the need for people to breath on each other while shouting.

However, this was the FIRST pub I decided to visit on my first night in Oxford and it certainly wasn't the last. It has a GREAT selection of beers that changes often and a great friendly staff. The atmosphere is unique. Definitely a place where the locals hang out. This is down the street on James Street, so definitely a neighborhood pub that could be overlooked when you are walking along Cowley. I recommend checking it out. I have become known here and feel like a local myself! At my last visit, the bartenders and friends had a hose fight, even running into the flat spraying water inside. So this tells you a lot about the atmosphere.

However, the refurbishment was drastic, gone is all the jingoism and threatening attitude and you can now wait for a train in comfort (there is even a display showing trains arrival and departure times), have breakfast and a decent lunch or dinner. My pie was OK, of the mass catering variety and for this reason I can't really give it more stars, but there is a good atmosphere and a good selection of drinks, so altogether a good place. It shouldn't be too difficult to improve catering standards and for this place to become one of the best pubs around.

Portions of the menu were not available due to the fact that the one cook was manning the serving station of the carvery. It has that classic Oxford pub atmosphere that makes it worth visiting, especially if you're showing someone around the city or looking for a casual drink in a historic setting. There are outdoor tables, seating inside, and a smaller section in the back. During peak hours, it can get quite packed, so it is not always the easiest place to grab a table, but that also adds to the energy of the place. Overall, I would not necessarily come here expecting the best pub food in Oxford, but for the atmosphere, location, and quintessential Oxford experience, it is absolutely worth a stop.

We found ourselves coming here again and again, as it was always nearby after a tour, or perfect for killing time before the next event. (in town for a family member's graduation) There's a few outdoor tables, and many little rooms inside with all types of seating options. We were a larger group with children in tow, and kept lucking out with the long table in the first room on the left. It does get rather busy at peak hours, but if you're patient or come at off peak hours, you'll snag a seat just fine. The fish & chips were a standout from all other fish & chips I had that trip. This is an American tourist review, so take that with a grain of salt, but we liked the food and the service was always friendly and quick.

There's also a second floor with additional seating and bar games if downstairs is too packed. We were traveling with children, including a toddler in a stroller, and had zero issues with the kids inside. (They weren't loud and didn't make a mess so that may have helped) Food on offer is traditional pub food, and everything I tried was fantastic. Service was always quick and friendly. Zero complaints. The Plough Inn is perfectly located for people watching, so swing by for a drink, take a beat, and watch everyone else rush by the windows.

It has the external and internal ambiance of an old times, British pub. The building is amazing looking and the inside is awash with wood and warm lighting. There is an upstairs as well, where you can sit by the window ina cozy chair and enjoy a pint while you watch the crowds walk by. But... The service was unwelcoming when we entered. We were greeted and acknowledged immediately at all pubs we went to, as we walked in. When we walked in here, the bartender looked at me and I had a sense that she was annoyed and I almost thought we had walked in while they were closed. There was only 3 other patron in the building. I had to walk all the way to the bar and then stood there for a couple minutes before she acknowledged me. My wife and I both commented about the strong odor of fish, when we walked in, and not cooked fish. Smelt like we were in a fish market. Because of this, we headed to the second floor. I ordered a beer and my wife a cider, both were good. We wanted something shareable to eat because we had been walking around all day and had dinner reservations in 3 hours. The menu raved about their 14 inch deep pan pizzas, so we ordered one. The only thing deep about it was, in fact, the pan. The pizza was extreme thin and very flimsy. They do have shuffle board there, but it's £10 for 55 minutes. Since there was nobody there, we didn't have to pay to play. If all you wanted was a pint and to see a nice looking pub, you could grab one here but it isn't a place to sit down and stay a while.

Thanks to its central location and tons of history, it seems like this pub has suffered at the hands of tourists like myself in recent years. The interior is smaller than other pubs I visited, but could be downright cozy if it weren't for the people coming in, looking around, and then leaving after taking a photo or two. (Maybe I just caught a tour bus day) They have 8-10 beers on tap, offer wine, and was told that the fish & chips are tip top, though we just had a few pints on our visit. Service at the bar was friendly and prompt, and we snagged one of the few tables available to sit and people watch. Overall White Horse is a fine small pub and well worth a visit if you love historic buildings/businesses. You can be the judge of the rest.
