Under the leadership of Lead Teaching Pastor Matt Chandler, and campus pastor Hunter Hall, The Village has grown and thrived in a time when seeker-centric and prosperity gospel churches have become the norm. The Village's firm commitment to preaching the Gospel--the good news about the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ--is the foundation for their ministry. From that flows worship, a gathering of community, service, and ultimately multiplication. If you're a believer and looking for a family to do life with, a group of similarly broken, hurting, messed up individuals whose only hope is in Christ, look no further. With a relaxed dress code and a welcoming spirit, The Village Church Plano is a great spot to call home.

Greeted again with a smile at the doors and a crowd of smiling, chatting people usually scatter the foyer. The signage for children's care (birth - 5th grade) is easily found along with the sanctuary and restrooms. The campus is still fairly new (fall 2014) so they are growing in all areas, but the foundation is really wonderful. Pastor Hunter (the campus pastor) is a genuine speaker who truly loves his Plano campus. Jamin (the groups pastor) is a friendly face you'll find doing announcements or wandering the kids check-in area high-fiving kids and saying hi. Adam (connections pastor) is everywhere. He's greeting at the door, mingling in the foyer, welcoming and answering questions in the "visitors/connect" area. Melissa (children's minister) is hands on in the kids area. Greeting kids, making new families feel welcome and helping with check-in. My husband and I instantly felt at home at the Village and are eager to get invovled, find community and grow in the Lord here.

Two priests were hearing confession, and though it seemed each line had about 15 people, all received the sacrament by 1:30. Waited 30-40 minutes. Be brief, be blunt and be gone. This parish is clearly thriving in faith -- I was amazed! When I travel here, I usually attend…read moreeither St. Jude, St. Mark, or Matre Dei, but I decided to try this one. The daily afternoon Mass during the lunch hour was well attended, confession had a long line, and Sunday Mass was completely full so much so that there were no seats available and parking required a long walk from an overflow lot. It was great to see such strong participation and devotion However, there were several serious liturgical concerns that I would be remiss if I didn't bring up: ~ The dismissal of children before the Liturgy of the Word is not prescribed by the Mass and unnecessarily interrupts the unity of worship (cf. GIRM 96; Redemptionis Sacramentum 44). ~ There were far too many Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, even without clear necessity, and some were blessing children during Communion, which is not permitted for lay ministers (cf. Redemptionis Sacramentum 88, 151). ~ It was unclear whether ministers were purifying their fingers after distributing Holy Communion, which is essential for proper Eucharistic reverence (cf. GIRM 278; Redemptionis Sacramentum 92). ~ The lack of silence and reverence after Mass was disappointing, with loud conversations continuing in the pews and aisles (cf. Inaestimabile Donum 17). ~ The constant movement of ushers during Mass was also distracting and detracted from the sacred action (cf. GIRM 42). This isn't my first parish I've encountered that has these issues and it's very unfortunate. But if we're meant to take our faith seriously, we ought to act seriously as Catholics toward who is actually present. The lack of reverence is inexcusable in any church. With one that looks like it has a strong and visible faith community, there is a duty to be a powerful witness to the beauty of the Catholic Mass -- please focus on greater attention to liturgical fidelity and reverence.
