Hmmmm at the time of this writing, this Home Depot only has two and a half stars. But as you can see, I gave it 5 stars. Why is that? What prompted me to double the stars on my review? Well, read on and let me explain. My daughter and son-in-law were in the market for some railroad ties. They needed 10 to complete a project. I knew that they would have to make a number of trips with their vehicle to transport, so I offered to help with my vehicle, my Subaru Outback vehicle. I know, I know, lol, but let me continue. I asked the son-in-law, uh, how long are these railroad ties? Eight feet, he replied. How long?! 8 feet. Hmmm, do you have a tape measure? Yep, here you go. Well, my Outback measures just shy of six feet. The ties will have to stick out the back. I know, the "ties" as in plural. LoL, oh, it gets better. It seems that the local Home Depot in West Knoxville, was fresh out of railroad ties. But, Oak Ridge was flush with them. We'll just drive out there. So off we went, my daughter and I, in my Outback with an almost 6 foot cargo length, and my son-in-law in his Toyota Sienna van. Oh, did I forget to mention the van? The family van that transports 4 kids as well as the parents? LoL.... but wait, there's more. Oak Ridge isn't as close as I thought. About halfway there I asked my daughter if we had crossed the border into Kentucky! That got a chuckle out of her. Eventually we arrived at our destination, and into the vast warehouse we ventured. After perusing for awhile and not finding what we were looking for, we found a worker and he told us "you'll find the ties wayyy out on the edge of the property ". Why weren't they inside, we thought. We soon found out. Off we trekked to the edge of nowhere. Wayyyy out yonder to the farthest edge of the property. Well beyond where any sensible patron would park, or even think to hike. Binoculars would have helped us find these ties. These eight foot ties. Yes, these eight foot sticky ties. These eight foot, sticky, smelly, railroad ties. Boy did these things stink! No wonder they were stored on the south 40 acres. It didn't help that the days temperature prior to our visit reached triple digits. The stickiness and smell were in full bloom that early evening. So here here we were, thinking that we were going to transport these 8 foot, sticky, smelly railroad ties in our pristinely clean, fresh off the conveyor of Zips carwash vehicles, one of which an essential family vehicle, down the road to West Knoxville. Oh, another small detail that I forgot to add, each one of these suckers weighed 250 pounds! Some detail, huh? SMH...I was completely and absolutely oblivious as what to expect. Ha!!! All I wanted to do was help. LoL. So now what. It turns out that you can rent a flatbed and they'll load it. God only knows how it'll get unloaded! I guess, fortunately for me, my help is needed elsewhere. I'll have to leave this task to the son-in-law and his dad. They're troopers. They'll make it happen. I hope my daughter takes a video. All I wanted to do was help. Instead I learned a lesson, we all learned a lesson.... The ties that bind, are better left behind. There will be an addendum to this story. One that I'm sure Home Depot will be a major contributor to. Until then, they get my 5 stars, if only because they helped make for a fun story. Quick Tip: Lofty goals aren't that easy to reach. Especially when you're dealing with railroad ties. Eight foot, sticky, smelly, heavy, too big for passenger vehicle, railroad ties. I guess we should have been clued in if we had considered that these things have to be strong enough to carry the weight of 400,000 POUND LOCOMOTIVES!!! LOL, LOL!!! Believe me. We're not dumb. We were just too ambitious to the point of being clueless. I love my family. read more

Really had one of the worst customer service experiences... waited on line to exchange a curtain rod Ironically when it's our turn the associates all turn their back and start talking to each other completely ignoring my husband and I. Then when it's our turn we can't exchange using the value of the item as store credit as per employee service desk it must be returned to the credit card... since when? I have never heard of such a thing... what if this was a gift? Luckily I had money for o spend however next time I will spend my money elsewhere! read more

We had to get some lumber and a few other things for a deck we are building. We shop here quite often and have never have anything but positive things to say. I do recommend this location for lumber. read more

The Home Depot - Lumber - Hardware Stores Near Me - Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Very expensive for everything. No local competition and you have a greedy free for all situation. Small Mom & Pop stores locally now beat prices for staples at this store. Large regular staff turnover, it's rare to see the same person twice in most cases. The price of lumber is breathtaking, Not sure of the excuse but its so expensive most products are covered in dust because its sat there so long. I no longer see contractors loading up under the high bay, they have obviously moved on to cheaper pastures. This is another store where EVERYTHING went up in price regardless of how long it sat there. Some things are chronically not competitive, LED lighting is 50% cheaper at Walmart and the list goes on. Hope Mennards comes to town to make a correction soon. read more

I was very disappointed in the home delivery service from home depot, firs off I was told they would deliver after noon and they arrived at 9 am causing me to take a point at my job, then the delivery man asked to use my restroom right off the bat, then they both kept speaking Spanish , it made me uncomfortable, as I was the only person home. Worst Home Depot in a 50 mile radius. Went in to pick up lumber needed a piece that was "in stock" except for on a shelf that requires a lift to bring down. Was told to come back another day they had too many online orders to deal with. read more

Do not even bother to buy appliances for delivery at this location. They subcontract the delivery and installation to a company that fails at every level. When attempting to fix the issue, this home depot stated "there is nothing we can do about it". Literally received that response after waiting 2 weeks for a response. They are rude, condescending and really have no regard for your business or safety. Their delivery/installers wore no masks. They destroyed my perfectly working range. read more

I visit this Home Depot about twice per month and have had mixed experiences over the last ten years or so. I've had great help recently from guys like Carson, Jay and David. Other times I can't find someone to even ask for help when I need it. I've learned to look online on my phone while in the store to identify what aisle things are in. I've never had any issues with returns until today and the only issue was that it took 3 computers to finally read my online receipt. I've heard that they are always hiring mainly because the hiring process is such a mess so people give up. The store is usually well stocked and clean. With the loss of Downtown Hardware you can expect this Home Depot will be busy as it's the only option in town. read more

My son-in-law and I went in at around 8pm last night to grab a couple of nylon washers. There was a scissor lift blocking the hardware bins we needed to access, so I went to find an employee to move the lift. The first employee I encountered (1-2 aisles over) looked at me like I had a third eye when I tried to explain the situation to him. I feel like I was being pretty concise, but he was having a good deal of trouble grasping what i was saying. He finally let me know they did not use scissor lifts to stock, and would not follow me to the hardware aisle to take a look as he was "assisting another customer." I proceeded to the front of the store to try to get a customer service rep to call someone back to hardware, and there were none immediately available. (There were fewer employees than normal due to the hour, I imagine.) Several minutes later the customer service desk became availble, and I started to explain the situation to the gentleman. I did so twice and got the same bewildered look from him. I was beginning to think it was me at this point, but before I had a chance to revisit (for probably the fourth time in 10 minutes) my dilemma, my son-in-law came over and told me the situation had resolved itself. For legal reasons concerning the general public utilizing motorized lifts in the Home Depot I will spare you the details of the resolution, but suffice to say I will seriously contemplate the criticality of my hardware needs moving forward if ACE is closed for the evening. In fairness I will say that they did have the nylon washers I needed at a good price. Just not worth the headache to obtain them. read more

Well I have honestly not seen ruder employees. Walked up to two empoyees to ask a simple question and they made it clear that i was bothering them by interrupting their conversation. Then it was impossible to get some one to help me get some ply wood or help me load it in my truck needless to say I will be going to lowes from now on. Absolutely the worst home depot customer service yet I have experienced, right here in Oak Ridge. The young people working the pro desk are ignorant to the material in the store and who shops there. Don't waste your time with this place if you need help with your purchase, they just don't know a damn thing about construction. If you are a contractor, bring in your own help, it is the only way you will make money and time by shopping there, an hour and a half wasted there today. read more

Great service in the garden shop the last 2 times I was there in the past 2 weeks. I needed help getting large bags of mulch and topsoil up to the register and then to my car. Staff on duty were very friendly and helpful. Thanks! I'm very thankful for the Oak Ridge Home Depot and that I don't have to drive further to get what I need. read more

I've just never had a positive experience here. Today we went in to buy a new dishwasher -- we had cash and were ready to buy. We picked a model and wanted to know if they had one in stock, but nobody would help us. Not that we couldn't find an employee... It's that NONE of them would help us. There was one guy sitting at a computer, but he couldn't help because he was in training. Another gut sitting at a computer setting up something for a customer so he couldn't help. The guy in training ran back to get help, but he came out, looked around, said something to the guy in training, and left. The trainee came to us and said the employee sitting with a customer would be with us after a while or "the girl who normally works this department will be back from lunch soon." We waited for a while and finally left. We bought an even better model and more of a selection at a local appliance store -- and got personal service. Next is our dryer, our kitchen range and many lighting fixtures, but I can tell you it won't be here. It was a belittling and frustrating experience. For big home improvement projects I will drive to LaFollette to the Lowes. read more
