Almost 140 years ago, a small seed store opened on Wall Avenue in downtown Knoxville. When the Tennessee Valley Authority located their office complex downtown, that first location fell beneath the government dreadnaught. Not to worry, the Mayo family moved their operation to their Bearden location at the 'then' outskirts of town, which had opened a while earlier. Keeping up with the times, Mayo Seeds became Mayo Garden Center, and expanded their product lines to meet the needs and wishes of an expanding clientele as suburbia moved westward and northward into the then rural areas of Knox County, keeping an eye toward quality items and service toward their product lines.
Today found me replacing my 10-year old rubbermaid lawn 'furniture' with something considerably more substantial, and considerably safer as well, since my last use resulted in an audible creaks and groans emitting from 'nieth my bottom!
I knew Mayo would have a wide selection of style and price ranges, and I wasn't disappointed! The most difficult portion of my visit was deciding exactly 'which' style to purchase, since I knew from previous product purchases that my selection would last for years and years.
As usual, their friendly staff helped my selection process by moving the furniture pieces to afford plenty of exam and 'try-out' space.
For 6 generations, Mayo has never tried to compete with the box-stores on price, instead choosing to devastate their competitors in the areas of quality and service. Their plants and seasonal flowers are typically several 'notches' above their competitors, offering robust, healthy plants for landscaping your home. Quality mowers, generators, gas & traditional grills are here in abundance, as well.
Of course, I received needed and (much) appreciated assistance in loading my purchase into the White Mule for its trip to the NC cabin in a few days.
Through the years, I've added Christmas items, a mower, a generator, a weed-trimmer, a snow-thrower, and a fine Weber grill to my home; all quality, and all from Mayo! It's good to know that as wheels, blades, etc needed to be replaced, I can do so with convenient ease.
You might have guessed, I'm a FAN! read more
