In hindsight, Gayle and I are so glad we did. The whole experience reminded me a bit of Mendocino (California), but with more charm and less people. The whole Village of Trinity, Artisan Inn, and adjacent Twine Loft restaurant vibe all came together for really wonderful weekend. The folks who run this place gave us a chock full binder of things to do, of which we only were able to scratch. Key fun that we enjoyed included exploring a few outports, seeing a whole colony of Puffins, and seeing a play at the Rising Tide Theater. Our Room was #8 on the upper front (street side) of the historic Barbour House. It consisted of a Queen Bed and a huge ensuite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was strong and hot, WIFI worked well, and it was great to just settle in during this cold and foggy weekend. Our reservation also included a delicious breakfast at the Twine Loft. This was a great way to start the day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Finally, let me share a story about a a very Newfoundland inquiry I made to the owners after our visit: One question - Your materials State that no shell fish is allowed on the property. We didn't, but we're still curious why. Regarding the shellfish, we used to allow it but some people would leave shells all over the floors and get shellfish juice into the wood and fabric. It made the houses stink for the next guests and we had a situation where someone was hospitalized due to an allergic reaction. With one of our ERs constantly shutting down due to being short staffed it is a risk we don't want to take on our guests. While guests in the rooms versus vacation homes typically aren't an issue, sometimes guests find ways of surprising us and sometimes guests rent Barbour House where you stayed as a full house with kitchen downstairs.

The house is charming, has a lot of antique decor went well with the 1800's home. Our room was clean, cozy, bathroom was not ensuite but just across our room also very clean. Great views from the house. I spent time on the deck enjoying the water views. The living common space has a large seating area and offers tea and coffee. Our stay offered continental breakfast with was lovely. With homemade goods and jam. You also have an option to order hot breakfast for extra charge. We had reservations for dinner on one of our nights. It was lovely. I started with happy hour on the deck watched the sunset, yup beautiful. We were lucky to have beautiful fall weather. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and informative. When we arrive they gave us a very detailed orientation of the surrounding areas, activities, restaurants, places that were opened and closed. The room also had a binder full of this info. Our room was small but had everything we needed. Bed was on the soft side. Artisan Inn owns numerous houses in Trinity, I highly recommended them! We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff gave us a beautiful card a picture of the town and signed by all the staff. Overall a great stay!

Overall, this was a solid bed and breakfast…read more This B&B is located right in the middle of Trinity. There's parking right across the street. Check in is in the gift shop next door. I stayed in a room on the second floor with a queen bed. It was a bit on the smaller end but it has everything you'd need. The bed itself was okay. My only issue with the room was the lack of air conditioning. If you prefer your rooms to be warm then you'll find it comfortable. Even though it was cool outside, the room was good at retaining heat. Needless to say, the ceiling fan and extra desk fan stayed on the entire night. Bathroom was a bit small but water pressure and temperature were good. The wifi was pretty good. It was reliable and while I didn't try using Netflix, it was consistently fast. The breakfast was okay on both days. On the first day we had scrambled eggs with bacon. On the second day we had French toast. There's also oatmeal, cereal and breads available beside the dining room. Coffee or tea and orange juice is also included. Overall it's a decent B&B that's somewhere between 3.5-4 stars.

My Newfoundland journey in July was everything and more than I expected. The Inn is comprised of several buildings built on a hillside overlooking Ship Cove. The 12 coastal villages ("outports") between New Bonaventure and English Harbour are referred to as "the Trinity Bight." There are several price ranges, from moderate to luxury. This is an inn not a B&B so meals are a la carte. Cold breakfast (gourmet hand-made cereals, yoghurt, porridge, fresh fruits, and baked goods) is $10 CAD and hot breakfast - made to order - is $16 CAD. The dining room and living room are large open and welcoming. There is a guest computer and a library of books as well as wide porches and art work on the walls that is catalogued for sale. I enjoyed a cold breakfast each morning and one dinner. The dinner menus change daily and are posted on chalkboards and in the public rooms all for a set $55 CAD. The interior dining area includes a small bar and it is open until 10-ish. The food is locally sourced or grown in their extensive gardens. Very good value for the area, too. While I must give this property 5 stars, there are a few things that need mentioning. As elsewhere in NL, there is a paucity of information offered - one must ask. There was very little info in the rooms. * On the second morning, I asked if I could have coffee earlier than 8 am, the start of breakfast service. I learned that if you are having breakfast, they will bring you a thermos a coffee with cream and sugar and a mug to your room at your requested hour. * I asked if I could have items laundered (there was a bag in the closet) and learned it was $13 CAD a load and delivered the next morning. * I made a few visits to the Reception Area (the Mansard building) only to find a paper sign on the door that they were closed - there are no hours posted. But calling "0" would also bring a response. * I found that hotels and B&Bs in NL may not even have shampoo, just a bar of soap. Fishers' has L'Occitane products but no Q-tips or cotton balls. There is no signage re: towels but I left those to be changed on the floor and they were taken but not replaced .. there were extras in the room. * The pillows were feather .. I have learned to pack my own IKEA support pillow when I travel. * The inn is adjacent to the Skerwink Trail - named by Travel & Leisure Mag among the top 10 hiking trails in Canada - but I had to ask for a map at Reception and it is rudimentary. The whole experience of being a guest at Fishers' is so enjoyable and unique that I overlooked these minor things. There are trails that wander up through the wild plantings to the main buildings. The Skerwink is the most amazing and accessible trail I have ever walked. I did it three days in a row with a packed bag of fruit, muffins, water and a book. This is a place where you cannot help but slow down, observe, listen, smell, and just be at peace. The only lodging place I will re-visit on the Bonavista!

While I was there we saw icebergs in the Harbour right from the dinning room of the restaurant in the hotel. On the outside it looks like an old fishing merchant house, but on the inside it is all new finish, very clean, and with exceptionally friendly staff! If you are within 50 miles of this place, come the extra distance.

What gives you a hint that this isn't your typical NL restaurant though, is having a look at the menu... very quickly, you should realize that this is no ordinary place - moose bahn mi, lobster mac 'n cheese, schnitzel sandwich, vegetarian streudel. And those are just the items we tried, the menu has something for every foodie wandering the Trinity/Bonavista corridor. Flavours were full, bright, complex. Service was friendly and timely. Place looked fairly new or remodeled. Bathrooms had better toiletries than most hotels! shampoo, soap, shaving cream, feminine products, hair dryer. This is a Hosteling International (HI) hostel so if you have a HI card, you get a discount. Wish we could've stayed longer.
