Awesome facility that is maintained with the help of our IAWAW Machinist Union Volunteers…read more The staff here is very attentive to US Veteran needs and is the only State funded facility in Maryland. I was blessed to help with the touch up painting of the curb entrance circle before having the privilege of serving Veterans lunch. There are 3 levels of care here and the veterans come from all walks of life. A resident wing for Veterans that live here full time. A dementia wing for those needed more detailed care and a wing for those residents that live here but still have the ability to come and go on their own. What a privilege to serve, talk story and share smiles with fellow veterans. Five Fabulous Stars for those hero's that live and work here!

I would give Genesis LaPlata Center on Magnolia Drive five stars, I'd do ten if I could. My mom who…read morehad her leg amputated in September was admitted into Genesis LaPlata for exactly one week ago and I am amazed at the level of care and attention she has received and her progress in such a short time. The facility itself is not brand new but it is neat, very clean, welcoming and has no bad odor that some facilities have. The nursing staff is friendly and attentive, they engage mom in ways that are kind and respectful. She arrived late Wednesday evening the day before Thanksgiving and her designated nurse was named Richard and he was particularly detailed oriented as he accessed the situation on all levels. By Friday morning when we arrived before 10am Mom was bathed, dressed, sitting in a chair (for the first time in over a month), brushing her teeth and ready to go to therapy. We were able to accompany her to OT and PT and were astounded how the therapist interacted with her and kept her motivated. For the first time since her amputation and despite three other unproductive stays in rehab facilities this was the first time that we could see her turning around, making progress and to getting back to her old self. Our interaction with the front office staff has been wonderful. Renee Grubbs who I believe manages the Skilled Nursing Wing is a consummate professional, she made certain that our family knew everything that we needed to know about what to expect. Renee encouraged us to ask any questions and to notify them of anything good, bad or otherwise, she has kept us up to date and won our confidence by her genuine care. Camille Cutchember handled the main part of the admission and it was so smooth. Late today I received a call from one of the staff named David who went through an extensive list of questions in order to create a "custom program" of activities for Mom based on her abilities and preferences. I will tell you that it is clear that this facility is concerned with the welfare of its residents/patients and makes every effort to create a home environment. I can not say enough about this location and the people who run it. I would recommend this facility to anyone who loves their family and wants them taken care of with skill and compassion.

I've been trying to get an appointment here for about a month and that process was not as smooth as I would have hoped. They always answer the phone promptly and are pleasant to deal with. That said, they called me back after I made an appointment when they realized they had given me the wrong time. Okay just a minor issue. Then a week later they called me about my appointment which they had put on their calendar for the wrong week. Managed to get that straightened out, but in the interim they had also decided that the referral from my surgeon was not valid and I would have to get a referral from my primary care manager. The bureaucracy of our medical system has become appallingly inept and does not do anything to further the health care provided to the patients. So I had to make an appointment with my primary care manager just to ask him to write a special referral that was identical to that from the surgeon. Of course now that it was from a different insurance provider, they selected a different therapy provider. So when I went to make the appointment, they told me they could not provide service. This required more calls to the insurer to have the referral changed to the original provider. All of this meant about a three-week delay in getting a simple preoperative physical therapy evaluation. I arrived about 30 minutes early for my appointment and filled out all of the paperwork as well as paying the co-pay. I was eventually seen about 10 minutes late, but the therapist was great. Very pleasant and easy to deal with and very professional. Other than the documentation issues and the minor mishaps in getting an appointment I would recommend this office.
