On Highway 28 in the tiny town of Levan, Utah you will find the Old Store, a neat little antique…read moreshop that is a homegrown collection of knickknacks, odds and ends, and other interesting items from yesteryear. This was a random stop for us on one of our journeys across Utah, on the way to Stadium of fire for the Fourth of July. There are lots of interesting little unique items here. It was interesting because we weren't sure what we could find and walked away with a couple little things. Prices were fair, and the proprietor was super friendly. Definitely a humble and real experience for a business that someone made themselves from the ground up. Worth a pitstop if you have the time on any road trip. Four stars!

Leaving SLC a little late and not having time? Finally, I took the time to pull over on my way through Scipio and wake a walk around. On the outside, you have weathered items, and some of the less lustrous and shiny stuff like old 7up bottles. We stepped inside, and the familiar scene unfolded: stuff. Beautiful, old, interesting, storied stuff. We pawed over it, still in a rush, and chose a few old postcards -- a particular weakness of mine. There's a large homage to old linens and quilts here, and other than that, I can't say that there's any theme to the curation of vintage and antique items. Toys, house goods, some kitchen stuff, and all kinds of collectibles. You really just have to see it and look it all over yourself, and obviously get something new to you to love and house. Here's the part that won me over: we selected the postcards, and were told by the wife that the husband would take care of us if we wanted to buy something. We knocked on the door in the back and he invited us in to his personal residence that sits just beyond that door. We sat and talked while he peeled potatoes; apparently there was a big dinner that night and he was tasked with peeling. We paid him, tried to leave the change, and he insisted on giving us back our change instead. It wasn't just "like" being invited in to someone's home to look at their stuff and chat, it was "exactly" that. True road trip magic.

Many of their treasures are of the knick-knack variety (old toys, antique tools, etc.), but they do have a section with furniture, paintings, textiles. Things are priced generally reasonably. When they're not in the store, they have items in front of their shop and on their lawn that you pay for on an honor system-- just slip the money into the mailbox and you're done. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

I would absolutely come back for vegetables and seasonal garden plants. Unfortunately, I haven't had the same experience with some of the larger landscaping plants. We've had several plants die, and the trees in particular have been disappointing. Based on my experience, I probably would not purchase trees here again, especially given the cost and time involved in getting them established. Overall, Skyview has a great selection and there are definitely things they do very well. I'd give them four stars because I've been extremely happy with the vegetables, but the survival and quality of some of the larger plants--particularly the trees--keeps me from giving five.
