I came here on a cheeky Friday afternoon lunchtime jaunt. Actually I was heading to borough market anyway to pick up some gluten free brownies for my wheat intolerant sugar-fiend friend who I am visiting tomorrow, but I thought I might as well indulge in a little lunchtime goodness whilst I was there :)
I chose this stall firstly because I think I have eyed it up each time I have been to the market (which, for the length of time I've lived in london, is a disgusting amount too many!), but also because it had a massive queue, and I think massive queues can be a good sign! In this case, it definitely was. It took me the length of the queue to decide between halloumi and chicken so it was just as well it was so long (it did move very quickly though, so don't let it put you off!) I went with chicken in the end, because as much as I love halloumi, I want to curl up and die when I get a bit that squeaks when I chew it! the cooks were very funny and friendly, giving my boyfriend a hard time for choosing a cheese toastie from kappacasein, and explaining to me what sauce options I should have if I liked a little spice (I love a little spice!)
My baguette was delicious. It had salad leaves, lots and lots of flavourful chicken and I added harissa, salsa verde and aioli and mmm oh my, delightful! It was huge, and very satisfying, and I think worth the £4.80. I have a rule where I can't eat from the same stall at borough market twice because there is just so much to try. I already broke that with the veggie table, and I might just have to break that here too (I'll get the halloumi next time though, I promise!) read more
