A friend and I decided to treat ourselves and our young children to lunch at The Grove. We will not be repeating the experience. The play area was crowded with children clearly too old/big for it, with no concern for this displayed by the staff. The menu choice was poor, shockingly so. The Kids menu included Fruit Shoots for £1.20. What we actually got were Sainsburys own version of fruit shoots; fruit slurps. They should not be advertising a brand that they are unwilling to provide/pay for. My friend and I ordered a mixed platter garlic bread (2 small slices), onion rings (4), chicken wings (2), garlic mushrooms (4) and slices of grilled haloumi cheese (2). There was no way this portion was worth the £9 we paid for it, even if they did put them on a very large plate with some wilted lettuce. The kids meals arrived cold, my baked potato was baked for what seemed like days and my friend's wrap was crunchy. When a toddler urinated on the floor outside the play area, I informed a staff member. Children were walking around in their bare feet or just socks as shoes are not permitted on the play area, I was keen to avoid another child's urine over the feet of my children. Nothing was done for a good 5 minutes, until another customer asked for some paper towels so she could get the worst of it up herself. These were provided, and a temporary clean up took place. When 10 minutes passed and no mop had been rubbed over the visibly still wet floor, we asked a staff member if they were planning to mop it. The response was, 'well that woman said she was getting it with paper towels!' Apparently staff members at The Grove do not need any training in hygeine, food safety or infection control paper towels applied by a customer cleans up urine! We did not stay for dessert, we went elsewhere. I will not return, nor will my friend. read more
