Finding myself in Hawthorn, with time for a quick lunch, I was drawn to the sandwich-board on Burwood Road, which led me to the courtyard (a sunny, leafy courtyard on the day I visited) dotted with tables. I stood for a second or two, sizing it up: was this going to be a good lunch spot, or an amatuer venue? At that point a keen server came and ushered me in. The emnu is short, but the food good. I had a delicious hot roast lamb ciabatta sanwich and a coffee, sitting in the aforementioned sunny courtyard. The place is open from 8.00am to 3.00pm, breakfast and lunch. It's a great little cafe, very different feel from most of the palces in Hawthorn, and whilst being a social services venture (Ignite Cafes Program) and not-for-profit makes you feel good, I can vouch for the quality of the food and service, and that will hopefully bode well for this establishment. read more
