During our conversation, I was directly asked, "Are you Muslim?" I was stunned. My religion--or whether I practice any religion at all--had absolutely nothing to do with ordering a birthday cake. Being questioned about my religion during a business interaction made me feel singled out, judged, and extremely uncomfortable. What concerns me further is that the business has since publicly responded to my review and acknowledged that the question was asked, while attempting to explain the context in which it was asked. For me, the context does not change how inappropriate and unsettling that question felt. I have screenshots of the original conversation, including the "Are you Muslim?" message, sent from the business phone number listed on record. I am sharing only what I can document. I ultimately chose not to do business with them. I'm sharing my experience because neighbors deserve to know how a prospective customer was spoken to and can make their own decision about where they choose to spend their money.

I stumbled upon Nani's Cakes after getting coffee next door and made two visits in two days. Yeah,…read moreI loved the cookies that much! They are a very small store front with a very modest showcase with limited small desserts. Apparently, the primary business obviously is custom cakes for special occasions. The team working the kitchen and front counter are helpful in their descriptions of each dessert. The cookies are very thick due to various stuffings but not very large in diameter. All are excellent in their own way but the Biscoff Chunky Cookie with white chocolate filling is crazy good. If gourmet cookies and custom cakes are of any interest, Nani's is well worth the drive.

They have a good variety of what they call their 'chunky cookies'. The person who waited on us educated us as 1st time visitors. She said almost all of the cookies have some kind of filling. Well, filled cookies are not typically my favorite but these cookies were quite good! I tried the pistachio, almond & biscoff cookie. They were all crunchy on the outside & soft (but not too soft) on the inside. The filling was not as I expected. I was expecting to see some type of noticeable creamy inside filling but that's not the case. The inside just tastes & looks like a regular soft cookie inside. If you didn't tell me there was a filling I would not have immediately noticed. All 3 cookies were good. The almond cookie was my favorite. All the cookies I tried had a nice crust / crunch outside with a softer but not gooey inside. If you don't like stuffed cookies don't let that stop you. The cookies are very good, they are very rich, but good. They sale coffee drinks which could be a little challenging since they are literally next door to a coffee shop, but it allows 1 stop shopping if you like. They also do custom cakes (the designs look pretty amazing), cupcakes & a few other sweets I didn't experience. These cookies rival the larger, more well known cookie companies. They cost about a $1 more, but they are a good size, creative flavors, & hit the spot for a tasty gourmet cookie. I say come give this small business a try for your next cookie fix. Also I checked out their website & they have several other types of sweet treats. I love their 'bento box' concept which is a small round cake with a few cupcakes; it would make such a neat gift idea!

Note that their website needs some updating as it still shows some menu items that have been discontinued. They were able to offer some small samples of typical cakes, which was very helpful for us to make a decision. We decided on the Chocolate Mousse Cake as it awesome (I love dark chocolate). While there I wanted to try their sweet Kolaches. My Czech great grandmother used to make Prune Kolaches 50 yrs ago, but the family recipe is long lost. Czech Kolaches are very different from the Kolaches you find in America today. While Kingdom didn't have prune Kolaches, they did have the Eastern European style fruit Kolaches that I was craving. I'd been looking all over trying to find these. I even went to Fredericksburg hoping the German bakeries would have some, but they don't. I ordered blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and cheese Kolaches to go. This is the closest I've seen to what grandma made. We visited on a Saturday and did not see the owners. We were helped by two young ladies who were both very knowledgeable and helpful. They helped guide us through their ordering process and make the overall experience even better.

These cakes are always a hit and not a miss. They also have a mini store inside, which I did not have a chance to browse through. Aside from little cake slices, you can also purchase larger cakes too. My review still holds as 5/5

The decoration was 5/5 , it was created exactly like the inspiration picture. The chocolate cake was fine, tasted like a box mix, and the raspberry filling lacked raspberry flavor. It tasted like sugar with a touch of texture. If you're going to order a custom cake from here, I would just be very specific on your flavor profile and what you expect from the cake. One selling point of this bakery is that everything is made from scratch.

Not only did Eliza communicate directly with me several times during the week, we also ordered a cake topper from Etsy that I was afraid wouldn't come in on time so she planned for that just in case and kept in touch with me about it. She also texted the day after the party to follow up and ask how everything went. The service she provides is TERRIFIC all the way around!! She is such a kind lady and did SO much hard work to create the perfect cake and cookies for my daughter's special day! I heard so many compliments on the cake and how beautiful it was and also how great it tasted! Several people asked where I got it and I gave them the name of the bakery and encouraged them to go see Eliza! Another dad (who has to be careful with sugar) ate some cake and said it was the perfect level of sweet and he really enjoyed it and asked where it was from also. The kids LOVED the cookies!!! They took them home with their goodie bags and were super happy to get them. Everything was so beautiful and tasted great!! Thank you so much again for all the work you put into both of them! We appreciate it so much!!
