Since that first store was massively popular, it was very cool when I discovered they've now got a small outpost in the popular Temple Bar area, which saved me the trek to their original store. I came here twice, and found new fun, cool things to check out. The second time, there was actually a travel documentary crew filming and so mum & I headed out the door fairly quickly as didn't want to get in their way, what with it being a fairly small space. It hosts around 2,500 paintings and about 10,000 other works in different media including water-colours, drawings, prints, and sculptures. It also houses a prestigious collection of Irish art and is also notable for its Dutch masters and Italian Baroque painting. Inside the gallery there are 15,000 works of art! Amongst the paintings and other art works to look out for, there's the Taking of Christ by Caravaggio, For The Road by Jack Yeats and the Sick Call by Mathew James which depicts the suffering of the Irish population following the famine. Amongst them is 'A woman writing a letter with her maidservant' by Johannes Vermeer Free guided tours at weekends are performed, it is a good way to learn the story behind the paintings. Otherwise, the entry to the permanent collection is free, and children can have a special audio guide to explore the gallery. From paintings to modern art, sculptures to a giant wooden carving, we easily spent a few hours there. The museum has a good cafe offering food and beverages, and you can enter off of Merrion Square or on the street

They have works of a high quality within a surprisingly moderate price range and they have an informal and friendly approach and encourage visitors to take their time and browse through all on display. I have bought a few pieces from them over the past few years and they have always been helpful and you get email invitations to their exhibitions. Really friendly staff who are knowledgable and willing to go the extra mile to help find what you are looking for.

I didn't even realize that Blue Loft is actually an art gallery until I walked back out. They offer a framing service as well. They do have some lovely arty pieces to decorate your home with along with the christmas cards and some nice glassware. They are a bit on the pricey side but if you're looking for a nice present and want to avoid the busy city centre, this is a good place to start.

The size of the painting ranges from small to signature pieces that would need quite large wallspace. What's most striking about the paintings at this gallery is how pleasing they are to the eye. I found myself liking almost everything sold there (a singularly unusual experience in a gallery) and it seemed to me that most of the paintings tended to be uplifting. These are the sort of paintings that you would like to see in your home. The staff too were friendly but not pushy and seemed happy to leave me wander around the various levels looking at the artwork without too much interference. At the same time they were happy to engage in discussing the work when I asked about it. Certainly if you are looking for buy some artwork for yourself or someone else and you have the budget for it, this would be a place to consider.

They work with hundreds of artists so there's always something new on the walls. Prices range from affordable prints to serious collector pieces. Charlie and Shane are incredibly knowledgeable and there's zero pressure. If you're looking for art in Dublin 8 this is the spot. Much better experience than the bigger city centre galleries.

Colourful ceramic statues of women with big beach-hats in the window made me stop for a closer look. Inside, countless numbers of unique pieces decorate the walls, tables and floor. A six year old boy is a force of nature, they need only be in the same room with something delicate and tragedy can strike. As a result I am always a little trepidatious when bringing junior into places like the Open Window. It is full of very beautiful and very delicate pieces of art, this week it was mostly ceramics... all imminently accessible and breakable. Concerns aside the gallery is small but manages to squeeze in a lot of pieces without feeling cluttered or crowded, the owner is friendly and instead of following us around like a fearful mother hen, he engaged junior and talked to him about the art, a brilliant tactic. This is a wee treasure in the very middle of Rathmines, total unexpected and well worth a visit.

Its in the heart of Dublin's busy Temple Bar area, it got work from Ireland's most important printmakers, from emerging local artists to international stars. The Graphics Studio is also Ireland's largest fine-art print studio, with of over 3000 works at any one time. I loved the arts becuase i like drawaing an painting in my spare time. Great Gallery to see, loved going there.

Walking to St. Patrick's Cathedral, I came across this gorgeous shop window with quirky posters…read morehung across like washing line. The artwork and sayings were wise, witty, funny, ironic and hip and I loved the look of the shop so wandered in to find out it was an art coop of sorts, which featured only local Irish designers and artists. I loved a local artist's take on Tintin as Hipster and ended up purchasing this poster of a screen silk of a young Alice-in-Wonderland-type-of-gal looking at these butterflies on a page from an old thesaurus. There was also just other lovely cool decorative arts stuff. The bloke behind the counter was also gregarious, engaging and passionate about supporting local art. If you're looking for a present for someone whilst supporting local artists, this is the job…read more It's a deadly little shop just a smidgen outside the main city centre drag that has some really interesting pieces in it. Lots by local photographers and street artists (have my eye on a Solus print that I can't get out of my miiiind!) There are also lampshades and photo blocks, placemats, bags, t-shirts n all kinds of random stuff. This makes it sound like it's just another one of 'those' shops though. You know the ones. Nice to look around. Smile anemically at the shop attendance. He smiles hopelessly back. You walk out, empty handed, with the thoughts of the pretty bits you saw gone already by the time you get to the nearest Spar. Not so in the Jam Art Factory! Honestly there were about 17 different things in here I could have bought for myself or others. They are all completely unique and most are Irish (in fact, from Dublin). But not Irish in a shilaley kinda way - in a much more 'Jezus we're deadly' kinda way. They also do framing by the way - if you do buy one of their pieces, or if, like me, you've been hoarding prints and paintings for years, clinically fearful of the price of putting them behind wood and glass. I've been assured that it won't set me back a frightening amount, so I will be back, and will update this accordingly.

Class Little Spot…read more Nestled away just across from the Victorian Fruit Market on Mary's Lane, there lies an oasis of arty fantabulousness. Up the stairs, past the ceramic leopard print dog, and the mini mahogany horses positioned dramatically against the white walls, you will arrive up into a maze of mini studios and offices. These little spaces have been taken over by various Dublin artists and creatives. Individual pods to work in, with access to the opinions and support of their peers, all for lower than normal rent. There is also a gallery / exhibition space which is changed regularly. The guys are launching a new publication called IMPRINT Zine - a full colour zine featuring over 20 artists' work, curated by Grainne Tynan and Eimear Tynan, two onsite artists. In case you're having trouble finding the spot, the Market Studios is a blue building on the corner of Halston St and Marys Lane opposite Georges Hill primary school and near the Victorian fruit market. The place is only open to the public on specific exhibition days, as far as I'm aware.
