If you love hearty food in a casual comfy setting, The Greedy Piglet will make you happy.
You place your order at the counter and then you find a spot in the dining area (there's also seating outside if the weather permits). If it's busy, hang tight, a table should open up.
The attentive staff will bring your plates and drinks to you where you sit - but take-away (take-out) is also an option.
For starters, the coffee was darn good (we had americano). They have all types of coffee and teas, iced and hot. Also hot chocolates and milkshakes. Plus an array of bottled choices.
Now for the food!
My partner had an omelette with ham, cheese and mushroom. Very substantial and quite good.
Now for the centerpiece of our meal; I had "The Greedy". You'll find it listed under "All Day Breakfasts". It was a potpourri of everything I wanted to try in an English breakfast. It included: 2 poached eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 different sausages, black pudding, haggis, Tattie (a fried mashed potato "slice", handmade by the owner's mum), mushrooms, tomato, beans and the best hunk of bread ever. And not only was the toasted hunk of bread delicious, but the BUTTER!! Can we talk about the butter?!? The owner, Naomi, called it "full fat butter". Why don't we have that in The States??? So good! Everything on that plate was an absolute delight.
Oundle is a charming village where everyone has been very tolerant of two ignorant Americans. The Greedy Piglet echoes that hospitality and good cheer. Come hungry and enjoy. read more
