The Great Synagogue is - Great.
Positioned in the heart of the city on Elizabeth Street, next door a karaoke bar you will find the magnificent Great Synagogue - a treasure in the Sydney Jewish community.
Under the guidance of Rabbi Lawrence, this synagogue welcomes people from all walks of life.
It's a magnificent building which reveals a deep history of the Jewish people.... it got a very "Gothic" feeling and has often been described as looking like a cathedral more than a synagogue.
The community is very warm and Rabbi Lawrence is particularly knowledgeable and highly regarded... the only thing that you may find less appealing (depending on your age) is that it does have a much older congregation.... so if you're looking to meet young professionals or families, you probably won't find them here...
A wonderful place to visit for spiritual enlightenment or curiosity. read more
