The Gown is the free, fortnightly student newspaper of QUB and can be found for free in the Student's Union, The library at Queens and many other locations on campus, as well as online. The paper is funded independently through advertising and run entirely by students, which means that whilst some articles will come through raw and unpolished, there is genuine passion and enthusiasm crammed into every article.
Over its long history, The Gown has reported many hard-hitting and influential stories. Today The Gown continues to report the major issues which students are interested in, and act as an independent outlet for student comment and debate. Unfortunately the paper has been prone to disruption as when it publishes anything controversial, like when earlier this year it tried to write about details of the student charter it was being forced to sign and was locked out of the offices in the union, so you get the impression it has to hold back sometimes!
The website is good quality and is regularly updated over the summer. All they would need to do in future is to try and increase the amount of articles written but I suppose for a volunteer base of students not too much should be demanded! Hopefully the Gown will continue to grow from strength to strength! read more
