Course is challenging from the back tees, and the greens subtle enough to have you second guessing the lines, but it sure is fun. I wish they'd actively marshal the course though. Too many players aren't repairing divots and ball marks, and that's the stuff that will ruin a course. If you haven't played here, do so soon!

A nice little course up in Godfrey. Played in the afternoon midweek, paid less than 15 bucks for 18…read morewith a cart. Greens were in very good shape considering how they are in the rest of the area right now. Not too many ball marks or burnt up areas. Fairways were in decent shape, and the rough was pretty straightforward to play out of, played very fair all around. Layout-wise, the front 9 benefit a longer hitter, lots of space to go hard with driver. Groves of trees separate most of the fairways from each other, so be prepared to play some low safety shots if you're a little wild off the tee. The back 9, however, I didn't really care for. There's two hard left doglegs that just seemed a little cutesy, they were easy to play with an iron off the tee, I just thought the design was lame on the first hole with it, and then the second was enough to annoy me into ranting about it. Assume it's due to a lack of space on the back side, which happens, I understand, just wasn't my cup of tea. Other than that, a pleasant little course. May be back if I can snag another cheap tee time. As an added benefit, looked like they had a nice big driving range, and more than enough space to warm up on the practice green. Can't attest to the food and beverage situation in the clubhouse, but assume it's on the same level as any other course around.

I went golfing at the course today for the second time, and I had a BLAST!…read moreKnowing last night that today would be a gorgeous day, my friends and I decided on going golfing somewhere near St. Louis. Our criteria for the ideal location was somewhere inexpensive (including golfing with a cart--as we're immatures/amateurs), somewhat close, not too crowded, and somewhere where we could enjoy the sunshine. This Far Oaks Golf Club fit the perfect bill for all of these. We were able to book a tee time without any difficult for mid-afternoon. We each paid only $22 for 18 holes, and this price included the cart fee! In terms of golfing, we had an challenging though incredible amount of fun. We got better as the day went along, and I think part of why we could get better was because the course is difficult but not outlandish. There are red, white, blue, and black tees; we chose the white which offered a very fair challenge for our skillset (well...lack thereof). The course weaves in and out of neighborhoods with beautiful houses, and there are several dog-legs both left and right. The par 3s were my favorite because birdies are doable on all of them--and I even got one! The course was not crowded on this day, and I doubt it is crowded most days as it is somewhat out in the middle of nowhere. Our group of 4 allowed a few groups to play through us, and we still finished in about 4.5 hours. Like the previous reviews stated, there are no/few marshalls, but that didn't affect us negatively at all. The club inside has a large food and drink selection, and the golf shop is everything you'd expect it to be. One thing I didn't see out on the course was a water stand, which would have been nice. Other than that though, no real complaints from this guy. Great job, Far Oaks! I'll be back shortly!
