It was here, sitting at the bar, that I learned from an English "futbol" lover that "American baseball is the most boring sport ever". From another patron I learned that his visit to America included staying at the same Las Vegas hotel at the same time that a gunman opened fire on a concert crowd below taking 58 innocent lives. This gentleman understandably cut short his Vegas visit and flew to Florida concurrent with the arrival of Hurricane Nate. Welcome to America! So, while the patrons of Pilot Inn might not have great admiration for America - the country - they were friendly and fun towards Americans - the people... me. I happened to remark on a certain IPA or two that the Pilot Inn features. I'd tried these at another place (BeerRiff in Swansea) days earlier. Thus I learned that the two places are under the same ownership. Both are fun and both are worth a visit. I enjoyed the Pilot Inn and its people. Both left upon me a fully positive impression.

Whether or not you're having their Sea Bass or something lighter like their deli filled breads, the food is always in my opinion excellent, and very well presented! The décor definitely has a seaside feel which comes across as tasteful rather than tacky (the impression I get in the Cardiff branch), and on a sunny day I'd really recommend getting a table on their balcony. There is however one major problem with Salt, and that is the amount of time you have to wait for food. I have eaten at this establishment on numerous occasions, and despite having complained this issue has yet to be addressed! If it wasn't for the fact that I really enjoy the food and atmosphere at Salt, I'm pretty certain I wouldn't come back. What further aggravates is that the staff hardly ever appear to be apologetic, and even when there's only one other table occupied, claim that the kitchen has a long queue. So unfortunately I'd only recommend Salt if you have plenty of time on your hands!

The place is is located a 15 minute walk from the center of town - unless it is cold, windy or rainy (never happens in Wales right?!) a very pleasant walk to enjoy the views and the fresh hour. However don't feel obliged to park in town and walk if you don't want to as there is ample parking by the pier based on our experience. The restaurant is clean and has both inside and outside seating with prompt and friendly service. A playerless piano plays music for you while you dine. Walk through a door after breakfast and there you are in an extensive amusement arcade - fun! And then there is the pier itself with its views and bracing fresh air. Another option is to climb some steps up to a cliffs above (behind the cafe) from which you can enjoy further views. Fun place to visit!!

Wonderful views over Swansea Bay from the huge windows - light and airy feel inside. Cheerful little tables outside for warmer weather or hardy smokers. Plenty of choice on menu along with pretty Ice Cream & Soda Bar to lure the young ones (if they actually need any luring when ice cream is mentioned - but the Bar just makes sure). Highly recommended, especially in colder months if just paid 50p to brave the Pier extremeties (perhaps to visit the Ape Lady ) and need a warming liquid and nourishment reviver.
