WARNING: This is essentially a guest review, because clearly I wouldn't come here to get my hair…read morecut. However, I was asked to come along for moral support and to step in if anything happened (no clue how I would've done that, but hey ho, I wasn't going to argue). Rafael (the client) called in the morning to see if there was any chance of him getting his hair cut. You must understand, he's been wanting to do something to his hair for a while, but he's never dared to and kept going for a normal, 7/9 pound hair cut. "Splurging" (bah!) 20 quid for a hair cut was not an easy decision to make. However, he did. So, he called, and got an appointment. We walked in, and a really nice guy (sorry, I have no idea what his name is) took our bags and coats (yes, even mine!), explained that Tommy was still busy cutting a clients hair, and whether we wanted something to drink. We declined, but later I realised they have a properly stocked bar in the far corner - I'm talking a good selection of whiskies (even I approve of some of them) and beers etc. It has a friendly atmosphere. As a girl, slightly intimidating (especially when dressed for a long day in the lab rather than to impress) but everybody was very nice and didn't really pay that much attention anyways. Everybody looks comfortable and chatty and like they really know that they're doing. I was able to listen in to one particular conversation that was going on at the chair in front of me, and I loved how much time the barber (?) took with his client to explain exactly what he was doing so that the guy would be able to replicate the look at home with his own hair brush, gel stuff and blow dryer (this experience opened my eyes to the world of mens hairstyling that I have never experienced in any sort of closeness, but that's besides the point). I love the music that the play also. Rafael was asked over and explained to Tommy what he wanted done with his hair, Tommy smiled and got to work. Personally, I think he did a fantastic job. Rafael was very happy. Lots of extras were offered (including neck shaving?). Rafael says he will definitely be coming, maybe not next month, and with slightly longer hair so that he barber has a little more hair to work with. From both of me, this places gets a thumbs up and we can both recommend this to anybody!

Having just moved to Glasgow, it was a bit daunting knowing I'd have to find a new barber/stylist…read more Well, I got lucky on my first go with Mike at Brother on Byres Road. I like the shop's atmosphere; it's modern and cool but not pretentious or intimidating. Mike is a pro at his craft and also a real gentleman. He consults with you beforehand and explains what he'll do, making sure you get the haircut you want. He's also a good conversationalist and plays good tunes. It all adds up to a high quality, relaxing experience. Which is what getting your haircut should be like, right? Couldn't be more pleased to have found Mike at Brother. Highly recommended.

I don't review many 'non-food/drink related' businesses here, I tend to focus my Yelping on pubs…read moreand eateries but as this is my local barber, and I actually enjoy going in, I thought it worth taking some time (this may set a trend, businesses be warned!). That said, at a stretch I could include The Barber Too under the 'food/drink' category as they've adopted an old tradition in offering the clientele a beer or a dram when they pop in! It's a short walk from my flat, and first impressions when you walk in are that this isn't a run of the mill barber. Some amazing artwork (by local artists) decorates the walls, it has a modern/quirky feel to it, and the music is usually pretty good too so even if there is a queue the time passes quickly. They offer the usual services but as I'm somewhat folicly challenged I've only ever bothered with a quick cut/trim. You always get a friendly welcome here, they are always cheery and chatty as they snip away at your locks (locks, ha, I wish I had locks of hair still!). I've been going here for a few years now and never had a bad experience or bad haircut. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Went in and was told right off the bat, "Sorry, we don't do girls." I said I wanted a men's cut, but just got "no, sorry". Can't really comment on the service since obviously I didn't receive any.
