Disabled homeless senior completely rejected at Journey Church…read more In addition, the care pastor Sam shared deeply personal information to others without my consent which is betrayal. When volunteering at "The Big Table" I overheard a couple on leadership say, "who is that" instead of introducing themselves and welcoming me. They help homeless people on a weekly basis but not someone who has been attending for months. Christ Jesus and the Scripture I read would not reject, betray, judge nor view disabled seniors as outcasts. Distant friends from another state are completely flabbergasted at the lack of assistance and acceptance Journey has provided to a child of God.

But the vision of the church became incredibly social justice minded. Many believe this is important in the role of the church. While I agree with this, I didn't feel the direction this church took was where I was meant to stay. Shortly thereafter we were called to move to a different state. Many people still there are my lifelong friends. You may find this place your home. But it's not the same place from the first review. Also: they own a building in Brentwood so now it's just Journey Church.

But once you've read the email (that allegedly started the downfall of this church) that the current leadership deliberately changed, to protect themselves and keep the money flowing.. you have to speak up. There is more going on behind the pulpit than you could ever imagine. What once was filled with the Holy Spirit is filled with deception to the congregation. Keep your eyes and heart open to what might truly be going on. Ask is this truly Christlike or is it a wolf in sheep's clothing. Is our current culture dictating the message or is the message changing the current culture. Time will truly tell. Continued prayers for humility and reconciliation which are powerful tools that God has graced all of us with.

It's hard for me to review a church as I am not a believer. I grew up Baptist and lost my faith…read morebecause i was taught that the Bible was literal and I eventually could not reconcile that. I also could not reconcile the racist nature of my elders with the teachings of Jesus. I go to this church with my daughter because I would do anything to spend time with her. I grew up in church and was in church if there was a door open. I lost my faith later and it isn't coming back, so this is more of a comparison to the church I grew up in and the loss of that community that came with the loss of my faith. I am not trying to convince you of my lack of faith and generally feel church is good for people. I will say that the primary reason I lost my faith is that I don't believe in things I can't touch. As best I can tell, a miracle is an unexpected outcome. A medical miracle means the doctor was wrong. **I am a doctor, we are wrong a lot and it's not a miracle. One of my greatest sadnesses in life is that I don't know how to give the sense of community to my daughter that I got in church. loved going to church when I was growing up because I felt a sense of belonging. I loved Sunday school and was very involved. I don't feel community. I have been going to this service for the last 6 months and I don't even know if they have Sunday school. Everyone seems friendly. Don't care much for pastor Darren, preaches intolerance with his acceptance.... I am sure that there is community in the small groups that they offer, but it's not like I will ever go.... I really just want community for my daughter. Was pretty disappointed in the Christmas service. Pastor Darren said he had the most convincing argument ever for the proof of Jesus. I guess I don't really expect anyone to bring me back into the fold, but I had hoped something more than "miracles are real, everyone else believes, so should you"

Time and again, we've encountered the presence of the Holy Spirit there, often leaving services feeling lighter than when we arrived. After hearing Pastor Grant share that small groups are the best way to truly experience community, we decided to take the leap last year--and it was life-changing. Our relationships deepened in such a meaningful way. I now have people I can call on for prayer and a safe community where I can share life's struggles and vulnerabilities. We are so grateful for this church.

To them Jesus is simply an example not the atoning substitutionary sin sacrifice that paid our sin debt in full so that we can have a true relationship with God and the only way to salvation. That's what the gospel is and what the Bible says. They don't believe in the work of the cross only as an EXAMPLE on how to live right. Very important you know about false teachings before you join a church it could literally cost you your salvation by getting the gospel wrong and denying the Holy Spirit. Paul said it clearly and how you can discern against false gospels. Even after he would be at a church soon after false teachers would come in. Jesus warned us 3 times about false prophets and teachers. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 New International Version 2 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power. Ephesians 2:8-9 New International Version 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. Galatians 1:4: The Lord Jesus Christ is the One "who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father." He gave Himself for our sins; He paid the penalty and provided atonement.

Neither of us came from a Baptist background so we didn't know what to expect, but we absolutely loved it from day 1. It was (and still is) a warm and inviting environment. We were actually invited to check out a small group on the first day and we've felt like part of the family ever since. This church has a chapel and a worship center so you can choose whether you want traditional or contemporary music each week. My wife and I lean toward contemporary, but it's fun to walk 100 feet over and have a completely different worship experience from time-to-time. I also like that the people range widely in age and style. Some people dress up and some people (like me) dress in jeans and a t-shirt each week. No judgment. Everyone is just there to worship together. Doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or what you believe - you will be loved. The childcare is really awesome too. It's super-secure (like metal doors with electric locks and friendly police officers at the door secure). Our son is 3 and has a great time every week. If you're looking for a church to call home, you should genuinely consider this one. Come visit and see for yourself.
