Down home, hand made, and darn good are my association with the Frozen Barn. After a weekend of physical exertion in mother nature it was time to indulge in a sweet treat! When it comes to ice cream I mean business. I insisted to my friends that we be careful to weed out options that serve any of that generic Hersheys stuff. Ultimately, we journeyed towards the Frozen Barn. The interior resembles the belly of a whimsical cow. The store offers an incredible variety of flavors and cones. I couldn't decide on just one flavor so I settled upon unlikely bedfellows, "Marion Blackberry" and "Anniversary Cake," inside of a chocolate waffle cone! I've never seen a chocolate waffle cone before! I'm not talking dipped, I'm talking chocolate. The "Marion blackberry" flavor was out of this world. The staff were very generous with samples and indulged me as I sampled second choice contenders such as "Cow Tippin," "Carolina Peach," and "'Michigan Pot Hole." If you're in the area, or if you're far away, then moooooove on down the highway and get yourself to the Frozen Barn.

This little hidden gem is nestled in Oak Hill WV. It probably is one of the only businesses that stays open past 9:00 pm The feel you get when walking in is the old style ice cream shop . Along the wall they have cow print painted. They boost 24 hand - dipped ice cream flavors, homemade waffle cones, banana splits, floats, sundaes and much more. Open everyday of the week starting at 12:00. The young ladies behind the counter were very helpful and professional. (Don't always find young people like that) My son played a game of Ms PAC-MAN as we waited for our ice cream to fixed. We all enjoyed what we ordered. We ate outside on the deck it was a beautiful evening. Support your local business if you live in this area or are visiting like us .

Visiting The Stashe in Fayetteville…read more While visiting the ring shop in Fayetteville, we stopped by The Stashe next door. We were in West Virginia with family and our dog, and were happy to see they offer a pup cup for dogs. I went with the Blue Panda after some deliberation, but also sampled the Dark Chocolate Raspberry--both were excellent. Portions are generous for the price, and even though my cup looked small, it was still a great bang for the buck. Here's what we had: * Pistachio (cone) * Blue Panda (cup) * Cappuccino Crunch (cup) * Pup Cup (for our dog) Every flavor was delicious, and we'd definitely come back when visiting Fayetteville and the surrounding West Virginia area.

Tasty ice cream in Fayetteville!…read more This shop shares a space/doubles as a restaurant ("The Take Out"). Parking is a little tight since it's downtown but we made it out okay. There's a little bit of outdoor seating and a few tables inside but it's mostly to-go. They serve Hershey's brand ice cream and have a large selection, including sugar free and dairy free options! The space is very cute and has lots of fun stickers/posters/decor. Service was fast and friendly! I wasn't wowed by the flavor selection -- it didn't super suit my preferences -- but we did come at the end of the day at the end of the week, so I certainly could've had better luck at a different time. We all wound up with Moose Tracks (vanilla base, fudge ribbon, peanut butter cups) and it was enjoyable, like all Moose Tracks! We were happy and it was a nice way to round out our time in WV. If you're looking for a treat, this is a good option!

We ordered a bagel sandwich with cheese and eggs, as well as a fluffy omelette, and both were incredibly delicious. It was the perfect quick breakfast to fuel us before a day full of adventurous hikes. The service was prompt and friendly, making us feel welcome. Our meals arrived warm and satisfying, with freshly brewed coffee that was rich and aromatic. The restaurant offered a variety of sweets and snacks, so we picked out a few to enjoy during our hike. The place itself was beautiful! Vibrant and colorful, with a cozy, inviting atmosphere that felt just like being in a home away from home.

We were seated immediately on a Friday at around 1pm. I love their vegetarian options but this is a place that assumes if you are a vegetarian, that you like and must have onions and mushrooms in every meal. I couldn't find much other than pancakes/pastries/sweet shit that didn't have onions and mushrooms but fortunately, they were able to accommodate my request for the tofu scramble without onions or mushrooms. GF ordered the vegetarian quesadilla with, you guessed it, onions and mushrooms (among other things). My tofu scramble was good but calling it a scramble is slightly misleading as it is actually tofu cubes albeit very crispy and tasty tofu cubes. This dish was probably potatoes. A few spinach leaves and maybe 1/100th of a pepper. I will concede to the fact that some of that volume might have been taken up by mushrooms and onions. The dish was very good regardless and the accompanying salsa added a really nice extra je ne sais quoi. I also really like the pay first and then leave whenever you want model to avoid being held hostage to bad service not to say that they would've provided bad service but it is a risk anywhere. Regarding GF's quesadilla which I did not have the pleasure of sampling bc of onions of mushrooms "I thought it was decent". When I asked if she had any details or specifics to add, she replied, "no".

Never thought I would have good pizza during a trip AWAY from NY but here we are…read more Firstly, I was very grateful to be in a place with restaurants after spending a night in Sutton. This seemed like a fun place to have dinner and it is very hard to fuck up a big beer selection and pizza. Not far at all from where we were staying across the gorge in Lansing and it was nice to have another excuse to go back into the most adorable town, Fayetteville. We were seated immediately at 5 on a Friday (we are old now). There is both a very comfortable indoor area and a perfect-for-this-weather outdoor patio. Service was good, prices were very reasonable. The pizza menu is out of this world. I can't say I have ever seen such creative and unusual pizza ideas. We wanted to try a classic and their elotes pizza. I saw another Mexican-themed version with black beans (for the plumbing) but it was a compromise with GF to get the elotes (her choice) WITH black beans (for the plumbing). We also ordered something healthy (and for the plumbing): their house salad: spring mix (which I typically despise), grape tomatoes, huge croutons chunks, grated cheese, pepperoncini. Two dressing choices: I can't ever pass on a nice vinaigrette. I was not aware that grated cheese, frank grated cheese, in a salad could be so good. The dressing was fantastic. The greens were crisp. The croutons were very good but not plentiful enough, and again the cheese. The pizzas were incredible. The classic really couldn't have been better. The crust was PERFECT thickness and balance of chewy and crispy. Sauce had a flavorful tang. Cheese was, again, cheese. The elotes pizza was also sensational. Who knew that could be such a good flavor combo? So fucking good. The toppings (corn, black beans, jalapeños, think I saw a scallion or two) fell all over the place and made holding the pizza difficult (probably my fault due to addition of black beans...for the plumbing) but it was totally worth it. We did have to flag the server down but service was pretty good otherwise. Everything came out within a very reasonable amont of time. We finished the leftovers literally by the time we went to bed that night.

It is a bit odd in that they offer a lot of tropical fruits and coconut-based ice cream; even if some of their stuff is grown locally I can't imagine there's a coconut farm in the mountains. Then again, the dairy-free crowd will be glad to know that there's vegan ice cream in the area. As far as food, their menu was only okay from a vegetarian perspective. The sweet crepe I did land on offered an abundance of peanut butter and Nutella that delivered on flavor, and the side salad I got was a decent size for the price and quite pleasant. There were a few chairs and a picnic table set up here, but it certainly doesn't offer the amenities of a full restaurant. Having said that, if you are specifically wanting something distinctive and local that's close to New River Gorge, this is one of your few options and does offer some good stuff.
