The Foundry was a nice spot we found unexpectedly while in town gathering some camping gear. They had a basic menu and a nice ambiance inside. There were a couple of tables and it wasn't too busy but the service was a little slow. The food was the highlight of the visit and we were pleasantly surprised. My friend had the buffalo poutine fries and it was good, and I had the daily fish special that was excellent. The fish came with potato chips instead of fries, but they were house made and very good. No refills on the drinks, however prices were also decent for the area. Overall this was a solid bar menu and it looks like it can be a good time when they have live music. My only recommendation would be to address the service and add a few more options to the menu and then we have a gem. read more

I had supper tonight at The Foundry. Though it promotes itself as an Irish gastropub, it was Jazzy Thursday Night featuring the Joe Petch Quartet ... and they were good! I ordered a meat lovers pizza ... it sounded interesting with the different kinds of meats. Paris, my server, gave me a head's up that it was thin crust pizza and I was okay with that. The absolute worst service from a POS manager that was so rude to us. I would never recommend this Dump to anyone. It's a 1 star, save your time and money the food is terrible and drinks are outrageous prices but the manager what a piece of work holy crap. read more

Great atmosphere, alright food. We went with two other couples on a Friday evening, so I expected a wait. Unfortunately it was a full hour from the time we ordered our food until it arrived at our table. I ordered the stuffed chicken, which came with the daily risotto, vegetables, and salad. The risotto was delicious, probably the best I have ever tasted. The chicken was dry, and not very tasty. The roasted vegetables were ok. I never did receive my salad. I will not be back to eat supper, but I will be back to drink and enjoy the live bands! read more

Complete waste of time. Group of 4 sat at table, place almost empty, 3servers standing next to bar, bartender standing. We sat at table near bar for 5 minutes never got a hello, menu, wave or anything. I stood up and waved and they still just stood. One walked past to near table to get a dirty dish. We just walked. Their loss, trust me. Who knows if food is good it looked nice inside. Go there if you like lousy service I guess and you like to be ignored. read more

We ordered ours to go - so can't say much about ambiance, but the food was good! I got a veggie burger with fries. It wasn't the best veggie burger I've ever had, but it was still good. My boyfriend got the salmon salad - the salmon was really good, but the salad itself was just okay. The dressing was blueberry vinaigrette and was rather bland. Had dinner there with friends based on recommendation from hotel staff. Tried the wings with spicy buffalo sauce--very good, The wings were huge. I had what must be a new item (as it is not on their web page menu)--the Udon noodles with spring roll. Very tasty and great spice. This dish was well portioned with nice blend of vegetables and sauce. One of my friends had the ribs and wings and said it was excellent. Very large portions. He said flavor was very good. My other friend had the Thai pork sandwich (which must be new too). He said it was good, but needed some sort of sauce--a bit dry. The atmosphere is a pub/bar environment and they have live music (not when we were there though). The menu is very diverse and has lots to choose from and the food is really good. Really good ambiance, definitely one of the more enjoyable bars in Thunder Bay for late nights - clean, respectful staff and often has a live band. The rest is up to the person on going there with a good crew of people! I haven't gone there for an actual sit down dinner, I've only had apps. Thunder Bay is an amalgamation of two small cities. The Foundry is located in the downtown area of Port Arthur. It's really not that active of a downtown, but The Foundry is a bright spot there. The staff were very friendly as were the other patrons, and the food was very good quality. I did get followed outside by a man who wanted some money to "fix his truck so that he could see his girlfriend" but he was pretty nice about it so that's ok. I had the pleasure of eating and enjoying a beer with great friends and absolutely LOVED it! Walking in the door one can't help but be taken aback by the amazing decor and the welcoming environment. Rich woods really make this place feel inviting, stay awhile! The food was to die for, a great selection of creative Apps and Main courses to definitely fill a hungry belly. We both had poutines. One was with lobster and shrimp bisque. Mine had oxtail, mushrooms, onions, peppercorn gravy and horseradish cream sauce.... all over home fries and cheese curds. North End of Thunder Bay , a balance of good food and most important if your a "beer snob" , a great rotating selection of beers on tap.With up to ( last counted) 24 taps, you will probably never tire of the selection. Local brewers, along with regional brewers are represented. The traditional bottled standbys are also available. Finger food/appetizers follows the typical North American pub grub, nachos, wings , BUT are above the average from other pubs in The Bay , and a bit pricier. Entries are again above average in quality. The seating is a bit informal and haphazard , which does not lend any formality one might want. Head upstairs for more cozy seating. Music nights can be loud and crowded. If you want a quiet sit-down don't go weekends after 9pm. On the contrary for the bar crowd this IS a plus! read more

Very disappointing experience. We were a party of four. Waiting an hour and half for the food. Then one person received her salad and the rest of us waited. She had to eat alone. My son who ordered soup as a appetizer didn't get it till his meal arrived which was cold and scum on top. The French fries which came with the meal was Luke warm. ( didn't eat them). After waiting which wasn't so bad as we were having drinks and good conversation suddenly turned to conversation about how bad the service and food was. Talked to the manager and he took a few things off our bill which only amounted to $ 3.06. Apparently French fries only cost 95 cents as that is all they deducted from our bill for them??? Did not make up for the spoiled evening of dining out. They still made $ 90 some dollars off of us (way too much). The beer and wine were good but then again they don't make those. He was able to list all of the drinks on tap, all daily specials, etc. Our nachos (shared by two) were FILLING and delicious. The deep fried pickles were good as well. Would definitely go back. Atmosphere and decor was nice, albeit LOUD. Not the best place to go if you want to catch up with friends because we had to yell at each other (horrible accoustics). The decor is great, especially the historic photos on the walls. The obvious attention to detail and expense of the decor led me to hope that the food would be comparable. The service was fine. The male bartender did not know how to make a dry martini which was very disappointing. The food was tasty and properly cooked but paled in comparison to the food available just steps down the street at the Sovereign Room. The menu reads as safe, unimaginative and unexciting.
