My three kids were already buckled in as we were headed to St Louis to see grandparents, and short on time. But Carol was so sweet I had to go in for a few minutes. From the outside it looked so small so shouldn't take very long. Boy was I wrong! It was huge!! It kept going and going. I was amazed at the collections they had. We spent an hour and a half with Carol as she walked us through each exhibit. Everything from fossils and geodes, two headed animals, children's toys and clothes from yesteryear, to an old hospital room(this was creepy). There was even a massive room dedicated to caskets and mourning practices from old times. It wouldn't be complete without a room dedicated to President Lincoln. I wish we lived nearby or had more time there. Carol is a history teacher and knows everything about everything, and is a clever and funny lady. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It's an must see if you are driving through Carhage!!

There is about 90-minutes of activities here including several rooms with different themes like barracks, hospital, kitchen and an office from pioneer days. It's very well cared for, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and there is a small gift shop. In addition to the fort, you can see a Santa Fe / Burlington train engine, a fountain, and the Mississippi River all from the same parking lot. Pack a lunch, grab your camera and come check this place out - it's really fun.

Visiting Carthage Jail can be sad, because it's where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred. But, I'm grateful for the opportunity to remember the great lives they lived and the contributions to the salvation of mankind they made. To quote John Taylor, "They lived great..." I'm thankful for all of the blessings that I enjoy today because of them. The Church of Jeuss Christ of Latter-day Saints has taken extraordinary care of the site. The missionaries at the site are wonderful and give complimentary tours. The history of the site is well worth a visit.

Clark County Fairgrounds is used on an annual basis for three different events, namely Annual Clark…read moreCounty Fair, Annual Kahoka Festival of Bluegrass Music, and Annual Mule Festival. The fair is held every July, the bluegrass festival every August, and the mule festival every September. All of these events make use of the large grandstands, where an oval horse racing track is in front of the grandstands, and an area with barns and open air exhibition areas residing in back of the grandstands. For events involving music and dance performances, a stage is set out on the horse racing track, about 25 feet in front of the grandstands. Also, for all of these events, camping areas are provided. COUNTY FAIR. The County Fair includes a tractor pull, truck pull, horse rides, carnival rides (roller coaster, Tilt-A-Whirl, rocking pirate ship), horse races, beef and dairy cattle show, swine show, goat & sheep show, poultry show, rabbit show, dog show, and an "open bucket" calf show. BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL. The bluegrass festival features big name country and western acts, as well as regional country and western acts, bluegrass bands, and Appalachian Mountain clogging. Some of the clogging performances involve only solo acts, while others involve clogging groups, such as The Kickapoo Cloggers from Madison, WI, led by Mr. Bill Kreamer. In between acts, the master of ceremonies tells short stories of jokes that are relevant to the interests of rural mid-westerners. The attached photographs show the grandstands and stage at Clark County Fairgrounds. The photos were taken during a performance of The Kickapoo Cloggers. Usually, bluegrass band Stone Soup accompanies this clogging group. MULE FESTIVAL. The Annual Mule Festival includes wagon rides, mule polo, a rodeo, breakaway roping, goat tying, a mule jump, and events for children such as egg and spoon races. For events taking place at Clark Country Fairgrounds, there are also food vendors and arts and crafts for sale. For example, during my visit at the bluegrass festival, I bought some funnel cakes, and I also bought two painted saws. The painted saws were created by an artist named, July Sawyer. It was purely a coincidence that a person named "Sawyer" was engaged in the business of painting saws.

The owner is super friendly and made sure we had a great time. Was a blast being able to play some of my childhood favorites. I couldn't believe most games were only 25 cents. Typically when you think pizza and arcade you think of chucky cheese and to be honest I think that made my expectations for the pizza to be absolutely terrible. To my surprise it was awesome! The perfect amount of sauce, a light saltiness, herbs and spices you can taste right off the pizza. This thing was packed with flavors. The tables have plenty of red pepper, salt pepper and cheese, and there's even free water. Bathrooms were clean.
