The restaurant is spotless, from top to bottom. The service is excellent, as it is provided by the owners, husband and wife. Anastasia will right away make you feel at home and serve you the best fish you'll try in London, or in England for that matter. Having visited various cities and restaurants in this country, I haven't found anything coming even close to Anastasia's place. The fish is fresh and made to perfection. You can choose fried or grilled. You can have chips (the quality is simply beyond words) or a fresh Greek salad that is simply delicious. All ingredients are of the outmost quality and freshness. This last visit I was very pleased to see that an inspector had come to check the place and granted them not only a five (highest rating for cleanliness) but he also went to the extent of congratulating them on their menu choices (see pictures attached). If you're looking for fish and chips, this is THE PLACE to visit.

I don't mind admitting, I was more than a little nervous about the quality of Fish 4ever's fish & chips, but I had a craving and only good old stodge would do! After venturing in feeling a little apprehensive, I have to say, I was very impressed! The canteen style restaurant is modern (if not a little too brightly lit for my liking!), clean and tables are laiden with the essentials for a perfect fish supper tartar sauce, tomato ketchup, brown sauce, mayo, vinegar and salt! I ordered haddock & chips with mushy peas. The fish was freshly fried, the chips were fat and scrummy, and the mushy peas, although not homemade, were tasty. The two guys behind the counter were friendly and super efficient. There were only a few of us eating, but there was a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere which I really enjoyed. A little on the pricey side to eat-in (my bill came to just under a tenner for my meal, plus an orange juice), but it was freshly cooked food and so much more enjoyable than eating on the hoof! With an open fronted eating area, it also makes for a great place to people watch!

After about 7 minutes we were served an ENORMOUS portion of lightly battered cod and chips. The chips were just as I remembered- chunky , crisp on the outside and soft center. The fish was flaky and tasty. I slathered salt and vinegar over the lot. It was all spectacular. The owner was super friendly and even brought us a complimentary portion of cheese sticks and more chips when he learned I was returning after 50 years away. The shop itself always seems to be busy which is great because it means you don't get stuck with a piece of fish that has been resting under a heat lamp all day and your chips are still nice and crispy, not soggy with grease. Personally I'm not a fan of battered fish with its skin still on though because it never seems to crisp up nicely, it just gets a bit soggy. This is not a phenomena unique to the Paradise Fish Bar though so I do have to forgive it. Paradise is obviously very popular with a lot of the locals and school kids. On your walk up to Newington Green its rare not to see at least a few people holding bags of chips soaked in salt and vinegar. The service is always quick and friendly and the prices very reasonable. Paradise also makes a very welcome break from all the fried chicken chains which seem to dominate the area. I'd take fish, chips and mushy peas over greasy fried chicken and limp straw fries any day of the week.

Some of the prices have gone up a bit (chips are now £1.20 from £1), but you can get fish & chips from £4.50, which is pretty good for this day and age. I have to confess that I'm in there once a week now, so trust me, you will give it a go, and I'm also sure you'll love it too. Alan

Well it must be good as it is still around so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered sausage and chips to take away. Instead they were abit soft and almost soggy (I suppose it depends how you like your chips ?!). I noticed they had a good sized seating area and a special deal for pensioners (I must tell my mum). The service was quick but not very friendly. All in all not bad but for such a long standing establishment I was kinda hoping for something special.
