Rustic looking restaurant with an open fireplace.
Lots of wood, country curtains and covered seats.
Booths that are cosy around 2 walls, normal tables in the middle.
The menu has minimal choices, which can be a good thing as long as what they do offer they do well.
There we 3 of us dining, mixed comments regarding each meal.
We started off with Garlic Bread and Pesto and Parmesan Bread, both very ordinary. Garlic bread can be great if made properly, it wasn't, the Pesto and Parmesan Bread was ordinary as well.
My main sounded delicious, Roast Duckling with Kumara, bok choy, honey, lime and figs. It didn't look that appetising when it came out. The skin was dry and black, and obviously burnt, the duckling was mostly dry and tough, Obviously pre-cooked and over reheated. The figs were packet dried figs, no lime that I could taste and a hint of honey. Overall, a very ordinary meal.
My partner had Eye Fillet, on a potato puree with English spinach and pepper sauce. He ordered medium , it was cooked to his liking and was tender and tasty.
Our other guest had Rack of pork roasted with garlic, peaches and thyme. It came as a Pork Cutlet, big and chunky. It took a lot of chewing. The peaches were tinned. Tasted "nice" was the comment.
All together very "country pub" type of cooked meals.
Had the meals been cooked properly with fresh ingredients snd presented better it would have made for a very pleasant meal.
I had Boston cheesecake with caramelised banana and macadamia brittle. The cheesecake was wonderful, the best part of my entire meal. The macadamia brittle was crystallised, tasty but not quite right.
We all had coffee, and they came as ordered and we enjoyed them.
The quality of the meals were not worth the expensive prices.
As I mentioned to start with, having only a few items on the menu can be a good thing if you do everything well, not so here. read more
