The landscape and land behind the property are well maintained and beautiful. If you walk down the road at dusk many deer sightings which is a nice treat. Our room was perfect size for family of 4. A recent graduation party and family visit brought us to upstate New York. In effort not to impose…read moreon local family members, we decided to stay comfortably away from the hustle, bustle and stress that large family gatherings often bring. After consideration, we decided to book the Arbor Inn B&B in the New England-esque village of Clinton, NY. Nearing two prestigious Liberal Arts colleges in Hamilton College and Colgate University, this B&B is in a perfect location. Less than a mile from the nearby downtown area full of independent shops, this 1800's former farmhouse sits atop scenically calm rural pastures. The home has since been renovated to offer 5 guest rooms of vacancy. Through it's renovations, the home hasn't compromised it's farmhouse appeal. The architecture, charm and landscape are as authentic as they are pristine. A front porch expansive enough for several rocking chairs that overlook the scenic grounds and an indoor/outdoor dining area in the back of the house that overlooks a distant dairy farm are just a few examples of some of the charm. Inside, the common space is just as welcoming. Two large communal tables for indoor breakfast, an office space with books and a computer available to all the guests, a wooden staircase decorated with vintage family photos and other ornate detailing that all seem to compliment the history of this building just perfectly. The room that we stayed in was equally comfortable, clean, quiet and relaxing. Each morning, you are served a complimentary breakfast of the Innkeepers choice. A Keurig machine is also available for efficient coffee/tea making. The first morning, we had lemon ricotta crêpes served with a strawberry/rhubarb topping and a side of breakfast sausage. On that cooler morning, we sat at the indoor table, conversing with another couple on a variety of adult topics. The next morning, a much more sun-filled one, we sat on the enclosed rear porch that overlooked the expansive grounds and gardens. A serene setting for our final day. Even with such peaceful quarters and location, the Innkeepers can make or break a stay at a bed and breakfast. Carol and Bob though were the consummate hosts. Helpful in their recommendations of nearby activities, welcoming in their accommodations to us, I can't say enough of how friendly and "at-home" we felt during our stay. If planning an overnight visit in the area, this B&B is surely worth a look.

Even then there are limited choices in Utica, the better options include a Marriott Delta Hotel (they bought and renovated an older chain hotel) and a Doubletree. We opted for the TownePlace Suites in New Hartford which was recently built. Positives: * We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite, with a full kitchen and plenty of room. * There was an indoor swimming pool and fitness room, though we didn't have time to use either. * Beds were quite comfortable. * Plenty of parking. Negatives * Very uncomfortable furniture! The small sleep sofa couch was rock hard. We used bed pillows to sit on and for back comfort. * The TVs are very small, surprising in the era of giant and inexpensive flat panels. There was plenty of room in the living room for a larger TV. Overall, the positives and negatives balance out for this 3 to 3.5 star hotel. We would stay here again, though we could opt for the Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites. However, this is an instance where the frequent guest reward programs do work for hotels. Since we are in the Marriott Rewards Program (and do get some great perks with that), we'd be more likely to stay here than the other comparable hotels mentioned.

That said, the cable reaches to about 4 spots. 3 were taken by gas powered cars, including the one that had a sign designating it for EV vehicles only. Besides that, the hotel room design was spectacular. Sadly the air conditioner, refrigerator, and guests above us competed for our attention all night long and neither of us got much sleep. Breakfast was free. No waffles, but eggs, sausage, bread, cereal. Staff wore masks. Most patrons did not, even while serving breakfast to themselves from the buffet. While checking out, another family interrupted to check out quickly, the employee recognized their name and told them she was the person they'd spoken to last night and that she reduced their room price for them. If you're planning to stay here I will reiterate what the staff said, "Good luck!"

We had never stayed at a bed and breakfast and weren't sure what to expect. This place exceeded our expectations. The mansion itself is beautiful. Every time we walked around the house we discovered more treasures, everything from the molding to antique pieces. The property has a lovely view of the Erie Canal. Each morning there was coffee waiting or us outside our door on a beautifully arranged tray. Then we went down to breakfast. I hate to repeat myself but the table was also beautifully arranged. We tried several different dishes during our stay, each one delicious. Our host, John and Rebecca, were there for our every need, without being intrusive. After running around all day It was so relaxing to return to our room each night. We asked several relatives to stop by and see the place. Our Aunt was thrilled as she had driven by hundreds of times and never been inside. She was not disappointed. One extra point. They have a friendly dog named Riley who helped us forget how much we missed our own pets. We plan to return here each time we return to Syracuse.
