This ungainly and over-sized newspaper is just what you would find laying around a Paris cafe or Italia expresso palace. Full of interesting and timely articles on fascinating subject matters such as "Guns in Coffehouses" or commentary and opinions on "Feminism reaches the iPhone." This is what you would be reading if you were an artiste or a member of Cafe Society!
The way to "look" intellectual is not not actually BE smart but just pick up a fancy newspaper and appear to be reading it! Fit in with the cool crowd! Reminder: put on some reading glasses for extra effect while trying to seem bookish while sipping a latte. I found this great newspaper laying around in the book basket at Peet's in Point Loma. With not much else to do or read, I sat entranced with the many large ads for various coffeehouses and restaurants. Though unwieldy due to the Espresso's large size, I tried my best to neatly turn the pages in a dignified manner. An entire large page section is dedicated to book reviews -and interesting ones at that like "The End of Time 2012." These reviews do not mince words and are hard-hitting
What I really like was the publisher printing-on the cover page- the "Principles of Espresso" as such: 1) provide a watch on the media 2) provide a watch on holders of power 3) promote civil liberties & justice 4) respect diversity & promote tolerance
5) promote individual initiative & action 6) speak accurately & honestly 7) respect the reader.
How can a dilettantish revolutionary who fancies herself a left-wing progressive radical NOT be overtaken with the charms of this cafe rag?
Next time you get tired of fooling around with your laptop at some bohemian hipster Cafe and want to impress that tight-jeaned metrosexual guy who's giving you the eye over his Chai Tea-whip out The Espresso newspaper and let him realize that he should be respecting your intellect as well as your short skirt and expensive purse! read more
