Even on social media, you'll find it difficult to discover exactly what's in store. The secrecy is one of their best marketing tools. Located up an unassuming set of stairs accessed from Brazennose Street next to Veeno, you arrive into their 'holding area' and await further instructions. They currently have six different themed rooms (two are the same so you can race against your friends in an identical game room). They each have a difficulty rating so you can decide when you book which one you'd prefer to try. Once a room has been featured for a while they change it to something different. Having tried it twice so far, we failed the five starred 'Sabotage' but escaped the four starred 'Virus'. But it all depends on how you work together and communicate as a team. There's no physical activity apart from dashing around the rooms trying to solve the puzzles and codes - it'll certainly work out your brain though! A terrifically different and well organised operation, we've already booked to come back here to try another room. Tip: it's proving extremely popular, so be sure to book online well in advance.

We chose The Treasure Hunt room which was the hardest room but we were very close to breaking out (with a little help from a few clues along the way!) The staff were really helpful and friendly and didn't even complain when we turned up about 15 mins late due to the traffic in Manchester! These are the minutes we desperately lacked at the end of the game - when I asked the game master to give those back to us, he said he couldn't. He apologised and said he was managing two groups at a time - I appreciate that, but that doesn't change the fact we lost because we were waiting for almost 10% of the time for the clue.

In the waiting room, patrons are entertained with riddles. Only one toilet. The game master explains the basic rules (how the locks work etc), we are taken into a room and then the game starts. I quite enjoyed those: this location has three difficulty levels, but don't be fooled by a one-star level, it's still bloody hard! He game master usually gives you clues. You can ask for one too, but it's up to them to decide whether you actually need it. ClueHQ has loyalty cards that will give you some perks. ( such as extra time or a clue) but we never used them so can't comment on it. On this particular location only thee different rooms (games) are available, but the Warrington branch has more. The only real draw I have noticed is that they wouldn't let you in if you come too early, so one of my friends had to wait for 10 Min outside on a chilly December evening.
