Brand new building that's very clean and nicely set up. Very helpful staff…read more WIFI: Is free and included in your stay PARKING: Small parking lot that is only accessible from a side street. Make sure you don't drive into the snowmobile trial and get stuck in the ditch (like me). I didn't realize that a mini stop sign is NOT meant for cars. BREAKFAST: A nice spread that includes a hot bar. There are scrambled eggs, bacon and warm cinnamon rolls. As well, there is yogurt, bread, cereal and decent coffee. DISCOUNTS: CAA members get a small discount

I stayed here while on a work trip and I found it to be a great place to stay…read more I had a great suite with 2 comfy Queen beds (even though it was just me!). A nice TV and lounge/seating area also with it's own TV. The bathroom was huge and offered many little soaps and lotions (which I kept, of course...I'm a sucker for mini packaging). The room was beautiful and the beds were nice and firm. The woman at the front desk recommended a steak restaurant (I'd mentioned that I was in the mood for steak) which I ended up going to and loving. It's nice when a local recommends a location and it's actually amazing. I guess they should know! One thing I was not used to (which I can't blame the hotel) was the howling wind. It was constantly blowing all night and made it difficult to stay sleeping, but again...not the HI's fault. They offered a hearty breakfast in the morning with a hot table and instant pancake machine! It was super cool. I love staying in hotels and staying here was definitely a good experience. If I ever find myself up this way again, I'll be sure to stay here.

One of two extremely reliable hotels that I've been at regularly over the past couple of years…read more This was formally known as Hotel Alpine, but was bought out by Quality Inn back in October 2013 when it was booming and doing successfully. The staff stayed on as well, so the service remains consistent. The rooms on the ground level have electrical outlets by the motel door, so that you can plug in your block heater on those cold winter nights. Even better, Canadian Tire is right across the street if you need to fuel up or get your engine checked. For food and drinks, there's a large resto-pub in the back of the building with a great atmosphere. In past years, this place used to be quick popular but has gotten quieter over the years. Still, there's an excellent selection of English 90's pop music, so you can still drink and stumble back to your room without needing a designated driver. While the pasta dishes might not fill you up if you're feeling ravenous, the myriad of appetizers here, including 'les bâtonnets de fromage frits' (fried cheesesticks) and 'les rondelles d'oignon' (onion rings) are fairly decent. There's also a standard selection of beers, wines and mixed drinks. Breakfast is included and is available on the main level. The usual fare - boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, muffins, yogurt - is available and if you're feeling adventurous, there's creton - Quebecois-style ground pork - to spread on your toast. A solid hotel that's got everything right.

Quiet, Clean and Comfortably Restful …read more.. We had come to enjoy KIRKLAND LAKE'S CENTENNIAL 2019 SUMMER HOMECOMING celebrations, driving up from Shelburne, Ontario. This was our second visit to the Gold Country Motel as we had enjoyed our stay there last year. Our party occupied two rooms and everyone agreed this was a great place to stay! Last year we thoroughly enjoyed the ATLANTIC COD FISH AND CHIPS dinners which they had cooked especially for us and then kindly brought the meals to our rooms since we had arrived late and hungry and the restaurant had already officially closed. The food was delicious! This year we spent most of our time enjoying Kirkland Lake's 100 Year festivities eating our food at close restaurants in town but we would not have hesitated to eat at the Gold Country Restaurant had we been around there at lunch or dinner time. The rooms were pleasantly decorated with restful colours. The flat screen Satellite TV, microwave and small refrigerator worked flawlessly! The beds and "pillow top" mattresses gave each one of us a very restful and comfortable sleep for each of the two nights we stayed! We remembered similar experiences from our previous stay. Our hostess Jill happened to be outside as we arrived and she remembered us, recognised us and came right over to our car to welcome us and to offer help as needed. Our hosts, Bill and Jill, were very courteous, happily smiling and laughing at our jokes! "Jack" joked and we laughed about "Jack and Jill going up the hill..."! I would not hesitate to recommend Bill and Jill and their Gold Country Motel as a WONDERFUL place to stay! We their patrons were treated fairly and with kindness and respect! Way to go Bill and Jill. Congratulations on your great hospitality! Jack, Mary & Laina

There used to be a pool here a number of years ago, but it is no longer there. The front desk clerk, Justin, was also very helpful and pleasant. Many of the staff upstairs here are bilingual, but downstairs in the spa, there aren't too many that speak English. It was a struggle to make my booking 'en francais', but the lady was as helpful as she could be. My room was fairly comfortable, although it was a single and faced an extremely boring view of a hotel wall and ventilation system. There were big, fat bathrobes for me to go down to the spa and I liked the see-through sink. The bath water was actually super hot, to the point where I had to wait 10 minutes before it was cool enough to get in. Everything seems to work fine. SNACK BAR: Gummy bears, Snickers, Eska water. Pay extra. WIFI: Included in the room price. Password required. SPA: Located in the basement of the hotel. Unfortunately, the elevator is not, so you might have to walk through the front lobby in your bathroom. I had a one-hour relaxation massage from a masseuse named Natalie, which was fabulous. Very professional and did great work; I would ask for her again. PARKING: Free parking along the sides of the building and behind.

Usually when I'm in Rouyn, I have no issue booking and finding a hotel room but for some reason, on this particular winter week, everything was booked. After doing some quick searches via my smartphone, I found the Gouverneur and based on the info on their website, they had rooms available. So, I quickly drove up, went inside and it turns out, I got a great deal. Much less expensive than some of the other hotels in the city, including the one I used to stay at. Which, FYI, by no means had half of the amenities as this one did. I went for the business suite and was not disappointed. Friendly check-in staff, the lady at the front desk was very nice ;) Parking, unfortunately, was outside and had to wonder around towards the back of the hotel to find a spot. My room had a nice modern 'Euro Feel' to it. It included free WiFi, Mini bar stocked with beer, selections of spirits as well as some items if you get the munchies. Clean, quiet and a very good value. Will definitely stay here again.
