One of two extremely reliable hotels that I've been at regularly over the past couple of years…read more This was formally known as Hotel Alpine, but was bought out by Quality Inn back in October 2013 when it was booming and doing successfully. The staff stayed on as well, so the service remains consistent. The rooms on the ground level have electrical outlets by the motel door, so that you can plug in your block heater on those cold winter nights. Even better, Canadian Tire is right across the street if you need to fuel up or get your engine checked. For food and drinks, there's a large resto-pub in the back of the building with a great atmosphere. In past years, this place used to be quick popular but has gotten quieter over the years. Still, there's an excellent selection of English 90's pop music, so you can still drink and stumble back to your room without needing a designated driver. While the pasta dishes might not fill you up if you're feeling ravenous, the myriad of appetizers here, including 'les bâtonnets de fromage frits' (fried cheesesticks) and 'les rondelles d'oignon' (onion rings) are fairly decent. There's also a standard selection of beers, wines and mixed drinks. Breakfast is included and is available on the main level. The usual fare - boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, muffins, yogurt - is available and if you're feeling adventurous, there's creton - Quebecois-style ground pork - to spread on your toast. This is my go-to hotel in Rouyn…read more The location is fantastic; if you go out for dinner or drinks in the downtown core, you can easily stumble back without worrying your blood alcohol level. I like the parking set-up too; you can enter from the back door easily if you have to move your luggage in. The breakfast always had hot foods available; I love the hash browns, eggs and waffle bar! The coffee is decent; I just wished there were more teas available. Otherwise, this is a decent spread in a cozy little breakfast nook. It start early and runs from 6 am to 10 am. I've stayed here at least half a dozen times now. Will continue to come here.

Yesterday night however I was told, after driving for 9 hours to go for a week long hospital treatment, the reservation I had made a month earlier wasn't valid anymore because I did not have my credit card with me (it was just destroyed because of a fraud and I am waiting for the new one). I had plenty of cash and a debit card, I could give them twice the amount I would have paid as a deposit, but nope: it didn't come from a credit card so it wasn't accepted as a payment mode. They basically cancelled my reservation and refused to have me pay cash or debit. I was very distressed as lodgings close to the hospital are not plentiful in Rouyn, and they finally agreed to take my money for one night only so I didn't have to sleep in my car. It was an inhuman treatment of a regular client who trusted this company to have a safe place to stay, 850km from home, for the duration of a hospital treatment. Never again.

Make sure you don't drive into the snowmobile trial and get stuck in the ditch (like me). I didn't realize that a mini stop sign is NOT meant for cars. BREAKFAST: A nice spread that includes a hot bar. There are scrambled eggs, bacon and warm cinnamon rolls. As well, there is yogurt, bread, cereal and decent coffee. A nice TV and lounge/seating area also with it's own TV. The bathroom was huge and offered many little soaps and lotions (which I kept, of course...I'm a sucker for mini packaging). The room was beautiful and the beds were nice and firm. The woman at the front desk recommended a steak restaurant (I'd mentioned that I was in the mood for steak) which I ended up going to and loving. It's nice when a local recommends a location and it's actually amazing. I guess they should know! One thing I was not used to (which I can't blame the hotel) was the howling wind. It was constantly blowing all night and made it difficult to stay sleeping, but again...not the HI's fault. They offered a hearty breakfast in the morning with a hot table and instant pancake machine! It was super cool. I love staying in hotels and staying here was definitely a good experience. If I ever find myself up this way again, I'll be sure to stay here.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and conveniently bilingual. There is continental breakfast included; you can drop in between 6:30-9:30am without bringing tickets. Just remember to bring loose change to tip the clerk. The selection is your usual fare, but avoid the scrambled eggs as they are made from a mix (I couldn't even choke the whole thing down and spat it out). The rooms aren't particularly spacious, but the back door is convenient when you want to park next to your room to move supplies in and out. Each room has a couch too and a microwave. The best part is that the bar fridge is double the size of most hotel room fridges! Great choice to stay if you're on the road.

We had also gottten a roll away for our son. There has been one minor upgrade since our last stay - the desks in the rooms have been upgraded. For those of you who are not away Comfort Inn is a part of the Choice Hotels brand with about ten brands in its portfolio. Its aimed at the more budget conscious traveller as most locations do not have gyms and swimming pools. This was the case for this one. The hotel is situated on the major highway through town. Its in an auto mall, so at night you don't have neighbouring businesses making noise. The interesting thing - because its Quebec is that they have a beer vending machine. You have to show id and pay the front desk for the beer, then they give you a token for the machine. The other change in the last two years is that the hotel now offers hot breakfast as part of its free breakfast offering. My wife had scrambled eggs and sausage. They also have a waffle iron with 2 different flavours of waffles, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, and toast. No issues with our stay. Our room was spic and span clean especially the bathroom. You are deep in Quebec so there's only 4 english language tv stations. Space was a little tight. Still for what we paid we had a decent experience.

The internet is a decent speed, the bathroom floor is heated and there are always chocolate mints on the pillows. The staff are bilingual and very accommodating (i.e. they were willing to hold onto a work vehicle for a week). In fact, they often remember who I am and pull up my reservation with no hesitation! Unfortunately, there is no breakfast included. The dining room does have a good selection throughout the day and the staff are friendly. Yes, you can have beaver tails for breakfast, if you want!

The front desk always seems to be understaffed, but they are friendly and bilingual. The building is conveniently structured to be like a motel, but the interior feels more like a hotel. The rooms are very clean and everything seems to be in fairly new condition. CONS: The WiFi is decent, but there are restrictions on downloading. No exercise room, but there is a free access to a gym in downtown. PROS: Several conference rooms if you need to run events. Walking distance to a Jean Couteau, sports store, several restaurants and car dealerships. POOLS: Forget it. There's none.
