Let's give a different wetherspoons a go, and compare it to our last, disastrous outing to the wetherspoons at Cannon Street station. Honestly, it couldn't have been further from our horrendous experience at the "Sir John Hawkshaw" last month - Sir John is probably turning in his grave to be associated with them! We visited on Saturday afternoon, and probably the busiest time for any pub 1.30pm - 2.30pm and the lunch rush. It was packed downstairs and upstairs! There must be seating for nearly 40 people upstairs and around 100 plus downstairs. We went upstairs as there was a few obvious free tables and it looked heaving downstairs! We picked out our table without issue, just in time as more people started to come in after us, we sat and decided what to eat. I chose a skinny chicken burger with a thatchers gold cider and Elle had a BBQ burger without a bun (gluten intolerance), chips (fries), onion rings and a ting. I went to the bar and ordered, unfortunately they didn't have the thatchers gold OR ting upstairs so called downstairs for them. I came back to the table, sat and waited.... Our drinks came in about 5 minutes, pretty good. Then it really started getting busy, all the tables around us filling up. A thought of our last experience of wetherspoons flashed across my mind....Will we be waiting an hour for this food? The pub was REALLY busy easily 25-30 people upstairs and 70 downstairs and thought I'd time how long it would take! 13 minutes later our food was there at our table! What a total contrast to our previous wetherspoons visit, excellent service, everything was hot, everything was delicious and well cooked, the staff were polite and the atmosphere was good. They had a pizza and a burger club special menu so spent £13.98 for our food and drinks which is nothing to smiffed at. We WILL be going back... We WILL be recommending the George.... We enjoyed our experience! Well worth a visit if you're on a budget or just want something quick...

When I pointed out to the barmaid that my 30 piece wing order only had 25 wings, they even brought me an extra three wings to compensate. I love you, Goosie!

Drink prices are good, much like a weatherspoon pub. The pub doesn't play any music but is well decorated and always clean!! There are plenty of tables and a couple of booths for larger groups - great place to talk with friends. The only bad thing about this pub is that the toilets (ladies anyway) are through a door at the back and up some stairs. This can sometimes be a little tricky when you've had a few too many :-p

There is an increased focus on hosting events and getting people to come in for some of the TV sport, and - in addition to the weekly quiz - there are also Poker sessions and occasional live music (seems the recession has made it more important to get the punters in). The Standard also seems set on maintaining a better selection of real ales these days. Guest ales come and go very regularly and are generally well kept - I have even switched from my regular lager to drinking bitter as a result. The pub also runs special promotions during local events (it opened early for the London Marathon for example, and RunToTheBeat), and has also hosted charity fundraising events for local groups - one day, I walked in to a fantastic selection of cakes all on sale in aid of a local toddler group (I think). Of course, big games on TV make the pub busy, and as there aren't a lot of local alternatives, sometimes you just have to grin and bear it. Service is generally very efficient and friendly. Free wifi is still available - with the week's code usually chalked up on a small blackboard at the right hand end of the bar.

***3.5 Stars*** Not…read morethe best pub fare, but still a decent option if you're looking for some cheap and filling pub food in the Stratford area. I stayed in Stratford while visiting London and I passed by this pub a few times while on my way to the city. I finally decided to stop by for brunch one morning before heading to the train station. This pub is really spacious!!! They have a really nice back patio area and a few tables out front. There's no table service here but you can order from your phone using an app or just order from the bar. What makes this place great are their ridiculously cheap deals! OH how I loooove them great deals! You can get an ish load of food for about £3.50 (that's roughly $5 in American dollars give or take the daily exchange rate). They also have great deals on drinks and you can get pitchers of beer and cocktails for dirt cheap too. I ended up ordering their traditional breakfast in addition to a bowl of porridge which was too damn much food for lil' ol' me. But you know how Yelp goes; eyes are always bigger than your stomach! The traditional breakfast includes sausage, bacon, hash browns, toast, eggs, beans and a tomato. HELLA food for £3.50!!! As far as the food quality goes, it was nothing spectacular but it was still good. It did the deed for brunch so I wasn't complaining. I actually really liked the porridge but got too full to finish it. It was thick but still really creamy. You can choose which toppings that you want with it. I chose bananas and brown sugar which went perfectly! I had only planned on getting one drink but it didn't make sense since it was only a couple dollars less than getting a full pitcher. I had been drinking beer for the past few days, so I decided to get a pitcher of their Tuity Fruity cocktail. Um yeah... didn't finish that either! But, I sho' tried my damned hardest. The cocktail was tasty and I didn't feel anything at first, but I did end up getting a buzz as I was walking to the train station. Thank GAWD for the train station because driving wouldn't have been an option. Although there was no table service, everyone that I encountered at the pub was extremely friendly. This seems like a locals joint too as many of the staff members knew people as they walked in. This is also a great place to catch the games since they have a tons of TV's inside. All in all, it's a solid spot for a cheap and filling brunch in the Stratford area.

A good place to start off a night in Dartford, attracting a younger and funkier crowd before they move off to Air & Breathe or Crush. The bar staff never seem to be especially friendly. Prices of drinks are reasonable, and the menu is fairly cheap too, nothing outstanding but very edible and good value for money - it seems very similar in style to the Wetherspoons menu across the road. Because this, this pub somehow resonates a 'village' feel (even though it is part of a chain), especially seeing as it backs onto Essex fields.
