January 31 2011. I went to open the door to my room and the whole door knob falls off. The apartments are cheaply made.
Regina Z.

Lived here for 2 years, got 2 bikes jacked, my apt got broken into and nothing was done about it. I honestly didn't feel safe living here. The management is a complete joke & the manager was straight up racist & hostile. I always had to call for maintenance because the apartment literally always fell apart on us especially because is built with the cheapest material possible. The parking here is terrible, if you don't have a parking pass or a guest pass, YOUR CAR WILL GET TOWED. It costs around $200 to get the car back too. You can only get a parking pass at the front office during office hours. So if your friend decides to crash your place to study (or to party) they should park on Redding Ave between 4th Ave and San Joanqun St. It's RIGHT next to a park. The amenities are nice, IF you can use them. The gym is pretty small and usually packed. The pool and spa is nice, if the gates weren't locked. You get crap from management for putting stuff like a chair or bike on your balcony/ pouches. The maintenance folks are able to come in and out of your place and usually would give you a "24 hour notice" sometimes not, just to 'check' on things like your fire extinguisher or to see if your unused room in the apartment was occupied, when you weren't at the apartment. The security is quite a joke. Like I said, I got my bike stolen 2x and my place broken into. Where was the securities when I needed them? Nowhere. And the intrusion alarm doesn't work. I would not suggest the assigned roommates option. I did that 2x and I had a terrible experience. YES, it is convenient that you just pay the rent by the room, however, splitting on the SMUD and gas bill is a pain in the ass with other housemates, especially those who are cheap as hell. Some pros (I'm not here just to bash the entire place geez): - The place is super close to CSUS. It's like a 15-20 minute bike ride OR 30 minute by walking. - It's RIGHT across from Target & a Wing Stop - There is a shuttle that brings you to and from CSUS, but it's almost always packed and you can't always rely on it - The amenities are nice, BUT only if you can use it. This place needs so much improvements to make this place better, but under the management that they have, it's a lost cause. Why do you think they had to rename the place hella times and change the management so many times. It says something about this place. I wish THE BEST of luck to those who chose to live here. If you have the money to pay to live here, you should try to get a few friends and rent a house for cheaper and save yourself some headache. BTW, at the bottom of the reviews there this button called "FILTERED" in grey!! CLICK it for MORE reviews about The Element. There aren't just like 5 up on yelp!!

They also never even had someone service this apartment before I moved in. This speaks for its self

Honestly fuck this place. When I moved in there were holes in the walls, horrible carpets with stains everywhere, shitty paint touch ups on the walls, broken appliances, leaking sinks, broken screens, broken fans and the list goes on. Now that I have moved out they insist on charging me for all of that and beyond. Luckily I took pictures so the bill dramatically dropped to only $80 something in absolute bullshit charges about "cleaning" and other bullshit reasons. This place is the biggest mistake I ever made and fuck the management there and especially their assistant manager. 1 star is me being generous because yelp has no option for 0

Great now the entire complex has to fight over 20 guest passes per day and the person has to leave by 10 am the next day.
Rebecca B.

Another example of why The Element sucks. Now the entire complex has to fight for 20 guest parking passes a day and the person has to leave by 10 am the next morning. Guess I won't be able to have friends over anymore.

Got broken into and all my valuables thrashed. Security 24/7 is apparently never around. Front gates are broken and always opened.
Dan G.

Horrible service. And the room when move in came, was filthy. Shit everywhere, burns on tables, left laundry in washer, moldy fridge. And when we go to have them clean it up they say they will send someone to clean and never did. And then shooed us away from the office saying they're closed. Worst apartments ever.

I moved in back in 2021 (under different management) and absolutely LOVED my apartment. The…read morelocation was safe, convenient, and maintenance staff has always been extremely kind and helpful. They even helped me with my flat tire before! I love the upkeep that Chris R. has invested in the property, gym, and overall community. I only recently moved out in March 2026, much to my dismay! I had a wonderful experience despite the rent going up from 1470 to 1900. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rivercrest when I was renting. The office staff is a different story unfortunately. Julia, over the past couple of years, has consistently been condescending, rude, and argumentative. I've seen a multitude of complaints on yelp, google, etc about her specifically- which is a shame considering so many other staff members are nothing short of exceptional. I had two different roommates over the past five years and we have dealt with lost paperwork, lack of communication, and lack of professionalism. Upon moving out, we are being charged for cleaning services ($400+) and additional fees meaning we are left with a bill rather than getting any part of our initial deposit back. We initially paid $1k but somehow now our security deposit was "only $350." This may have been due to old management losing paperwork or lack of communication but it's a shame after having such a great experience over the years. It has certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. I would have happily moved back in at another time before, but now my decision has changed and I do not see me living there again under current management. I hope to see Rivercrest improve in the near future!

One of the worst apartment experiences I've ever had. I…read morerented an apartment in Rivercrest Apartments for one year, and it was a terrible experience from start to finish. There was a constant roach infestation. I had to spray and treat my unit three times a week on my own, and even though I submitted multiple maintenance requests, management completely ignored most of them. Occasionally, someone would come and spray some cheap liquid that only worked for a few days, and then the roaches came back again. There were also serious issues with parking and homeless people constantly hanging around the property -- sleeping near the stairs, along the fence, and even living in their cars near the building. The smell and unsanitary conditions were unbearable. Many residents, including myself, repeatedly complained to management, but they just kept making empty promises and never did anything to fix the problem. When I moved out, they stole half of my security deposit, claiming it was for "painting" and other nonsense, even though I left the apartment in the exact same condition as when I moved in. The unit itself was already in poor condition when I first rented it -- old, dirty, and falling apart -- and the management simply didn't care. Now, even a year later, my friends who still live there tell me that the situation has gotten even worse. The complex has practically turned into a shelter for homeless people and addicts, and residents can't wait for their leases to end so they can move out. The property manager, Julia Gonzalez, is extremely unprofessional, rude, and unreliable. She often speaks to residents with disrespect and fails to follow through on promises or address problems. Her behavior shows a complete lack of accountability and honesty, and many tenants have had negative experiences dealing with her. I strongly warn everyone: stay far away from Rivercrest Apartments and the management company behind it. They are dishonest, irresponsible, and exploit their tenants. To anyone who was also cheated out of their deposit or suffered from similar problems -- don't stay silent. File a legal claim and make them take responsibility for their actions. Companies like this should be investigated and shut down for the way they treat people. And of course, I'm sure their manager will now reply to this review with some generic, copy-pasted message that doesn't reflect the truth at all. Unfortunately, Yelp doesn't allow tenants to respond back -- otherwise, I would.

I love where I live, it's nice and quiet and I love the stores and food places behind me. Comparing its location to the college, it has a super good location, not too far and with a lot of nice places around it. It feels nice and they always have a lot of great opportunities to get free stuff here. My only complaint is the homeless population in the area, it's really annoying and I don't always feel safe. That and the lack of parking for a lot of people, even in the surrounding area. When you can find somewhere to park, youre at risk of your window busted out. Until I get a car though, this isn't a huge concern to me, though I wish everyone well. All in all, it's wonderful living here and I'm glad i've had a great experience being here. Go wexler!!

The outdoor area in the gated property is nice as well with grills, designated pet areas, outdoor seating, a fireplace, great landscaping, and more. I like how they decorate for the holidays. They definitely earn the name "luxury apartments". I have loved the events that they've had so far. I'm new to the Sac area and living at the Wexler has made me feel welcome. Specifically, I was at the Student Union, not sure if it's called that anymore technically. No matter, I was pretty impressed. It's really nicely updated, doesn't feel like a dim and old place like it used to. There are lots of open spaces and nice lounging chairs and tables all over each floor especially second and third, and many meeting rooms and hang out areas. My kids enjoyed wandering around a bit and just getting introduced to what a college campus looks like. There are also many offices of different student services like I saw a student activities office, a women's center, a computer lab, etc. There is even a footwashing room for students with that need for religious reasons. All in all, I was quite pleasantly surprised by how nice the union looks now. It's been expanded and completely remodeled and updated all over. We will have to visit again.

I have pros and cons for it Cons: - Parking: This was always a challenge while living here. We were provided with one parking space and two parking passes with the understanding that some parking is first-come-first-serve. This made it very difficult for my wife and I to get spots as we both sometimes worked nights and would have to park about a block away. Additionally when we first moved in we received notice that, to no fault of ours we were given identical parking passes and that one of our cars would be towed if we did not amend this. That did not sit right, the implication that I would be towed at my expense for something I did not do. - Security: While there was a nightly security patrol, it's really a golf cart with lights on. This was not much considering there were several vehicle break-ins during our time here, one happened to my wife's car. In this area I would say you get what you pay for. I was grateful to have some type of security but at times it didn't feel like we had any. - Packages: Don't get packages delivered to your front door. They will be stolen. I had a package taken literally 2 minutes after it was delivered. Instead they recently installed courier boxes, or have them tossed over your fence. - No Dishwasher: Having no dishwasher made for a less comfortable way of cooking and cleaning, nevertheless if you're willing to hand-wash your dishes this shouldn't be an issue. Pros: - Cost: The actual cost of rent is more than reasonable. This was a huge blessing for my wife and I for the two years we lived here as it allowed us to save money and begin building a financially stable life for ourselves. My wife and I paid just over $700 a month for a two bedroom apartment. - Size and storage: While the space can feel cramped at times, when we moved out we were shocked at how much stuff we were able to reasonably store in our apartment. We had to be creative at some points but again our reason for living here was mainly financial, so making do was never a huge issue. - Location: the apartments proximity to sac state was wonderful while my wife was a student there. She often walked to school. We also made use of the trails along the American River which was very pleasant. Overall if you're looking for a decent place to call home while you're in school and are comfortable without certain amenities such as a dishwasher or in-unit laundry, then this is the perfect place for you. If you can afford what you want then don't go here. If you're looking for cheaper rent and a livable space, this place has it all!

They didn't do anything when my car got broken into and had to change my locks and keys on my vehicle and paid to get a car alarm. I've witnessed several cars parked over 72 hrs and felt harassed. Pretty nice apartment for the price and nice neighbors but just watch out for your cars cause security isn't responsible other than you parking in the wrong spot and calling a tow truck. Awesome please to live nearby campus and for low income students.
