I recently embarked on a trial subscription to The Economist (digital). The reporting on international news is at least as good as that of The New York Times and probably better.
Why? It is more balanced. The New York Times is very slanted, with its editorial line determining what news will be covered and how it will be, even though it has editions in other languages (Chinese, etc.).
I can't say anything yet about their billing, etc., but I know if I had time I'd enjoy reading its international coverage more than I would that of The New York Times.
The digital edition also seems to be easier to navigate. For example, the reporting on the residents of Marioupol who had to flee to the east, during and after the fall of the city, was quite competent and interesting.
In any case, The Economist is a good antidote to The New York Times, which no longer provides balanced, objective coverage, notwithstanding the semblance of it. read more
