The store specializes in sci-fi/horror/fantasy genre books, but the various little rooms and nooks within the store also have super fun items to browse like old computers and cool artwork. A pretty cover caught my eye and next thing I know I now have a new romantasy book to read. The shop owner was also super friendly and loved talking about all things geek and books with us when we were there. There were a lot of fun stories about how each item came to rest in its place in the shop -- make sure you chat him up while there. One room is a dedicated reading room -- the couches, chairs, and tables are other-worldly and fit the ambiance of the store perfectly. I want to pick this room up and bring it to my house! I knew I was going to love this place before I even walked in. South Main Creative is a purveyor of antique and vintage houseware, jewelry, acccessories, furniture and more! With pieces from all over the world and spanning many different decades this is definitely the place to be if you are looking for some treasures. I was especially captivated by their selection of glasses from years past. I found several pink plastic pairs that would cost a fortune if you added some pretentiousness hipster brand name on it. They had tons of personality and a steal at $20! The only issue is that I have a massively big head that does not fit standard size glasses. For the DIY chic, you will find a selection of chalk and wax paints to experiment with as well. They even offer basic sewing and crafting classes, including a how to make a pocket felt gnome which I am sad to have missed out on. We found one at the mart across from Sweet Home Furnishings. We crossed the street and ventured inside. We found many an early era item. The store was fascinating and took me back to classier times. Though I'm quite modern with my styling. I couldn't help but fall in love with some of the rustic and early American items in the shop. From early globes to tarnished maps draped along the wall. The owners probably have an item for everyone. There is a nice flow to the shop, and as we made it to the end I didn't think I'd find anything to purchase. But this modernist was proven wrong when he spotted an American War Propaganda Poster from 1942. It was perfect, and I purchased it with haste. So here's to you Sweet Home Furnishings. You made my Saturday a great one, and helped me to embrace Vintage just a little bit more.
