Thus, Ski Barn earns a three-star rating for being in the right place at the right time. The prices are semi-high, although the shop offers a 10 percent discount for college students (and you best believe I'm still milking my undated GW college ID from last year). The selection is weak, but that is usually the case with noncorporate boutiques and stores. The customer service, in true Canaan style, was pretty much nonexistent. I picked up some socks, snowboard mittens and a sunglasses band. We also rented our snowboard equipment from Ski Barn because the quality and selection here were better, and the prices cheaper, than Canaan Valley Resort, where we were staying and 'boarding. I'll be back, I'm sure, not out of desire, but necessity.

Equipment rental prices are much more affordable at the Barn and you can pick up all those expensive necessities that you need, but might not necessarily want to make the investment in (like ski bibs, helmets, etc.). If you reserve online, you get a 10% discount on your total, which is always helpful. I will say that on the two occasions I visited recently, at the first visit - the staff handled a large crowd with a much appreciated polite efficiency, however on our return, when the store was empty - I found it to be that cliche ski rental place experience, a bunch of staff standing around with somewhat of a snitty attitude that they had to process our returning rentals and interrupt their story (which was about 'poop' btw). So, while customer service might be hit or miss, this is pretty much your best option for skiing around Davis.
