Terrible! The food was BAD, the server was rude. DO NOT eat at Dalchini.
If Yelp would let me, I wouldn't give this restaurant a single star!
To be clear, I've traveled all over the world. I've had "Authentic Indian food" in Japan, England, Wales, Chile, SA, everywhere from the East to the West Coast of the US, and even from India!
I know what a Korma is, and how it's made. I've had some of the best Chicken Curry you can imagine, and naan to die for. The list goes on.
The "Korma" that was delivered to our table table neither looked, nor tasted, like Korma. It had /none/ of the spices a Korma should contain, and was so sweet it might as well have been a bowl of sugar.
When we complained, and the dish was replaced with a "typical Curry", we were still /very/ disappointed. It was bland to the taste and overly salty, with not even a hint of actual curry, or even cumin, or really any spice.
My friend, who was convinced/bullied by the server to order some kind of mixed curry dish (which turned out not to be mixed, but layered), became ill from the food. The top "curry" turned out to be some kind of thick, white, sugary substance, and the underlying curry was an /unnatural/ bright orange. I've seen some bright and beautiful curries in my time, so trust me: Unnatural.
The server implied that I had never had Indian food before, and kept asking "Are you sure it was a Chicken curry you had? Are you sure it was Korma? Are you sure you've had Indian, before?"
Yes, my memory is completely intact, thank you. I've not only /had/ chicken curry, I've /made/ it, myself from an authentic recipe handed to me BY A FRIEND FROM INDIA.
In short, do NOT waste your time on this restaurant.
If you want /good/ Indian food in Cardiff, go to Six Flavours. The staff /there/ is helpful and kind, and the food is /actually/ authentic.
Again, Do NOT eat at Dalchini if you want a decent Indian meal. read more
