    Vanilla milkshake
    Jack C.

Well, after the coffee, the burger, what is left to eat at Ponsonby Central. I thought of milkshakes! The vanilla milkshake is really nice, if they made it a bit thicker, I would have rate them higher. Will update this review later when I have had more chances to sample their other offerings.

It is a super cold day, you're having trouble heating up.... Need something for the soul? Do what I did..... Go to the dairy... I did & my soul was throughly warmed. Not just because my sammie was scrummy two sunside up eggs, delicious smoked bacon a little Mayo & some greenery. But because the server was delightfully peppy. She was stoked to have us come & eat there. Which made my lunch time experience just that much more enjoyable. Also I had a triple chocolate milkshake, which was decadently chocolatey. Really I was a happy camper. Many people have come & tasted the icecream sandwich, which is so much better value for money than two scoops of icecream. I didn't have one this time (it was too cold) but I have been there specifically for that yummy sandwich three or four times now. All I can say is they are amazing. The last thing I will say is that value for money isn't really what you get here I'm afraid. I think it was $15.50 for the bacon, egg sandwich. That is for what the ingredients are quite an expensive sandwich. It doesn't get much cheaper for the other options. So just bare that in mind.

The most magnificent selection of local hard and soft cheese, with some really hard to get French cheeses mixed in for good measure. Wonderful service, super knowledgable, friendly staff, and so many cheeses to taste! Our faves... all from NZ. 1. 50/50 goat/cow soft cheese 2. sunset blue 3. ashed goats cheese Divine with a glass of local wine, and some oysters!

Best shared, these cookie sandwiches are enormous!

Chocolate cookie on one side, chocolate chip on the other, Kapiti hokey pokey sandwiched in between, fairy floss on top - perfection! Don't try and eat it all yourself though, that's a lot of cookie. As we were leaving they brought out a new chocolate covered marshmallow variation with dried raspberries on top, now that'd be nice...

The Melt bar is part of 'The Dairy' a great new little addition to Ponsonby Central where you can great desserts like sundae's of gourmet ice cream decorated with fairy floss or sandwiched between freshly baked cookies. The homemade meringue and marshmallows are scrummy too. Ice cream soda's served in retro glasses. All great. Get down there for a naughty treat.

I was heading to my local butcher when I noticed the bike, basket full of fresh flowers, parked out front and the glorious name, 'The Cheese Room.' Inside was even more delightful. Shelve upon shelve of delectable looking chutneys, artisan crackers and fresh herbs. Down the back there's a temperature controlled cheese room with big wheels of NZ made cheese. Hand-written descriptions of each cheese including the region and the creamery help you to choose from the exciting selection. There's also a separate fridge containing goodies such as Neudorf yoghurt and Clevedon buffalo mozerella... my idea of heaven. I had a quick chat with the owner on my way out the door and it turns out they'd opened for business that very day! Unfortunately I didn't catch his name but he told me that him and his son have been selling cheese at markets for years and decided it was time to open a store. Well, I for one am thankful they did and judging by how busy they were on their first day, so is the Milford community!

The owner sold me on a beautiful Nettle Gouda (I forget where it's from but DELISH) and also a Smoked Parmesan (from Tauranga which I haven't sampled yet but it smells devine). Like Alex stated, the store is beautifully styled which also boasts a climate controlled cheese room at the back of the shop complete with automated door. While writing this review I realised I should have looked to see if they sold cheese slicers, I saw a selection of good quality knives for sale so I am sure they would. Will definitely have to inquire on my next visit. If you love cheese this place is a MUST visit!! Street parking or park at Milford Mall & make the short stroll across the road.

There is a large cheese room with glass viewing area in the main dining area which adds to the ambience. There is plenty of seating to enjoy the limited menu - everything we tasted was delicious. The place was almost full when we arrived and totally full by the time we were served. We had pretty decent coffees with palmiers which were super crispy and perfectly sweet. We actually went back for more. The cheese and ham croissant was flakey, warm with gooey Camembert and a generous amount of ham. I had the braised ox tail on custard which is served with a few slices of fresh baguette. The braised ox was gelatinous and salty, the custard smooth and creamy set into the serving bowl, on top were pickled mushrooms adding a much welcome tangy refreshing way to cut through all the other richness. I'm not usually a fan of micro greens, but these were pretty tasty fresh and added texture. DELICIOUS! I only wish the serve was larger. Will definitely return because I saw many tasty looking soups being served and want to try more.
