I began to search for a stylist. As I was searching, I became not very confident in what was out there especially for a child and put off the search for a while. I am really happy with Kia's work. I found her on Instagram and met her for the first time today. She took her time, listened, and was thoughtful in her approach to cutting and styling my hair. I decided that I was over flat ironing my hair after my recovery from the creamy crack some years ago. Natural curls are among Kia's specialties. She negotiated keeping the length and shape I like with cutting out fried bits and celebrating my natural texture. amazing experience. As a curly girl I've always hated getting my hair cut because it's always been an awful experience but kia was different. She just trimmed off the dead curls (when you told her an inch, that is all she cut). Left my hair healthy and lengthy. She is so sweet and gave me so many tips to keep my hair healthy and how to style it using devacurl and also some alternative products since devacurl is so expensive. I had a curlcut and curlayage so it took about 3 hours overall for her to cut each individual curl and then add some highlights after the cut. Kia did my hair and makeup, plus several bridesmaids, on my wedding day. It was a noon ceremony so things started early, and of course, I asked for a last minute addition to her schedule (really inappropriate of me). She was such a professional juggling the demands of 5 heads and giving everyone a style that worked for them including soft romantic curls, voluminous blowouts, braided updos, and more traditional updo. Kia Fay has really changed my life. When I came to her my hair was damaged and I was depressed. I didn't feel like I had any control over my hair on my own. It had been over relaxed and even though I was trying to wear it naturally, it was a mess. Kia had seen this before...but what she did next is what truly makes her unique: she listened to me. I told her what my hair dreams were and she clearly laid out how to make them happen. We selected products (ie she recommend what would be best for my hair and I ordered them on amazon...) and she expertly cut my hair. She then naturally straightened my hair with a gentle dryer instead of the harsh flat iron and tugging. Even after the first appointment I could see results. She then laid out what we would need to do to reach each step, carefully cutting, recommending, caring for my hair. All while giving me the tools and confidence to care for it at home. In fact, for the fist time ever, I'm growing my natural hair out - something I would never have been able to do without Kia's support and guidance. When she finally cut my damaged hair out, I was ready because she had built the confidence within me. I love the curly cut she did for me.
