This is a place that never changes, although I do believe on our last visit the food was even better than before!
The food is classic British which is something of an oxymoron with the family who owns, cooks and serves being Spanish! Some might class the dishes as being old fashioned but I would like to think of them as more 'retro' :-) The dining room is also old fashioned but that's some of the charm of the thatched building with it's quaint bar and quainter staff.
Think Prawn Cocktails, Garlic Mushrooms, Deep Fried Fish, Chateux Briand, etc. A three course banquet on a Sunday runs at a fixed price of £14 per person with some specials carrying a slight price addition. I say banquet because it is a humongous meal - don't eat the day before - you have been warned! P.S. The chips are AWESOME!
If you visit twice or more you are sure to be remembered by the owner and her family, give them your name and you will find yourself being hounded to stay 'after hours' for a glass or six of their homemade sangria which, along with the owner's accent, is probably the only nod to their national heritage in the place.
Definitely worth a visit and make sure you take your granny with you - she'll LOVE it! read more
