Another fantastic State Library of Queensland initiative (see The Edge). The Corner is basically the children's corner to end all children's corners. And it's not so much a corner as large room. The Corner is an ideal place to bring kids because it's an arena in which they can play and use up some energy but it's also educational and indoors (rainy days!). There is almost always something fun going on at The Corner. Staff run craft activities, games, brainstorming sessions, or just chat to kids and read them books. Even when there isn't a specifically scheduled activity happening in The Corner, there are so many books, toys, and hidey-holes (I love the teepee myself) that the kids will still find plenty to entertain - and educate - themselves with.
I think it's awesome that places like The Corner exist. I think they help kids develop a love of reading and ensure that they will continue to frequent libraries well into their adulthood. I guess the State Library is hoping for some repeat business from these little ones as they get bigger. Fun for all ages, but double the fun if you have a little friend to take along. Word of warning: it gets noisy! So many excited kids with so much to explore. read more
