Great place to come for a few hours to explore a large number of interactive displays where you (and your kids!) can learn about physics, chemistry, Robotics, the Brisbane floods, Dinosaurs and many other topics dependent on the time of year.
The Cube is one of the world's largest digital interactive learning and display spaces and consists of 48 multi-touch screens soaring across two storeys. This space works through collaboration with QUT researchers and drawing on knowledge and data from research areas in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
On my visits there has been:
1. ChemWorld: fireworks, rockets, periodic table and water behaviour with other elements.
2. Robot University: a game-like environment where you can command robot weapons and discover the consequences, send messages to a robot on Mars, and choose domestic items for a household robot.
3. Physics Playroom: Objects included are children's blocks, wooden horses and trains. Each objects has properties such as mass and friction and are affected by gravity, wind velocity and ties in with colour, light, sound, fluid motion and mechanics. Display also ties in the solar system and the physics (I.e different gravity of Saturn affects the objects).
4. The Arcade: 80s style games (Block Breakers, Parabola Pirates and Space Junk) and the mathematics behind each game, including algorithms.
5. Plasma Wall: The wall tracks your movement and then mimics it in the 4 different mini-games (lava lamp, you're on fire, 80s disco, smash the image).
6. Underwater World
7. DinoWorld (under construction)
8. Brisbane Flood Maps and interactive display
There's also other things at the science building including the atrium, solar panels and other displays. Try the self guided tour
