Come back to Canterbury Court what is my all-time favorite store that I visited in Corsicana…read more Beautiful large store with so many amazing, antiques that I was in all of every turn that I made in the store and what I saw next. The curators of the store do a fantastic job of putting together a collection for someone's house that anyone could be proud of. Well, I would not describe the store is cheap. I would say that it is somewhat affordable for the quality in history that you buy with some of these amazing, and in some cases one-of-a-kind pieces.

I like this thrift store for furniture only really. You can get some good deals on it. They are…read morealways friendly (only once I experienced a not so friendly moment but we all have our moments). They do help load your furniture and I appreciate that as most thrift stores won't. I rarely find anything else here. The other things like knick knacks, dishes, lamps, etc are usually broken. Inspect items carefully. I also once took a lamp harp off a broken lamp and they wouldn't sell it to me because I stupidly said I took this off a broken lamp is that ok? This is the one time I experienced rudeness he said no, we don't part our pieces. I said that is fine, I get it I just thought you would rather get something out of a broken lamp because no one will buy it broken. I put it back on the broken lamp and that was that. I shouldn't have said anything and he would have never been the wiser. Everything is in boxes and some on shelves but even stuff on shelves is mostly broken, sadly. The clothes and linens are in big piles on tables. What ends up on the floor mostly stays there, as most people don't pick up after themselves. It isn't folded or organized because, come on people are messy. They can't spend all day folding and organizing that area. It can have a smell and is messy. So if you are the type that likes organized thrift stores, don't want to dig or don't like asking for the price of things then this isn't the place for you. You do have to ask for prices and they will also consider an offer if you don't like what they want for the items. They may say no, but more than not the price is good or they will at least consider your offer. All in all I will continue to stop in from time to time because it is fun and the prices are fair in my opinion.

I want to share my experience as someone who has donated to and shopped at this store, because the…read morecommunity deserves to know what is really happening inside. **The manager's behavior is unacceptable.** He is consistently rude and aggressive with customers -- yelling at people who ask about prices and telling them, "if you like it, take it; if not leave it." What makes this worse is the clear pattern: Hispanic and darker-skinned customers receive hostility and inflexible prices, while white customers are met with a friendlier attitude and better deals. I have witnessed this repeatedly. Whether intentional or not, this is discriminatory behavior and it needs to be addressed. **The wait times on truck days are unreasonable.** On Tuesdays and Fridays when the donation truck arrives, customers are made to wait outside for hours, in the middle of a brutal summer heat. There is no shade, no communication, and no respect for people's time. **The inside conditions are just as bad.** The store has no air conditioning, and the fans are frequently not turned on, making the shopping experience miserable and potentially dangerous. I have personally seen elderly shoppers visibly overheated inside the store. This is a health and safety concern. The store itself is also completely disorganized, making it difficult and frustrating to shop. People donate to Soul Harbor because they believe in the cause. The staff should treat shoppers -- who are also part of this community -- with basic dignity and respect. Right now, they are not.

My mother contacted Nancy to have an estate sale for my family home in Star Harbor…read more I took over as my mom was having some health issues, and from the beginning I was Hesitant about working with her, but the decision had been made, so I moved forward. The week before the estate sale my husband and I flew down from Chicago to go through the house and get any last minute items that we wanted to remove. The morning we were leaving Nancy asked me to let her know when we were gone, which I did. After we left she and her family then moved into the house, apparently to stay there until the estate sale? ( this is a beautiful lakefront property, and it was Easter weekend ). This was completely WITHOUT PERMISSION. What she didn't understand is that the house had already been sold to the family next-door. The new Owner walked in to find her whole family camping out in the house. They were subsequently asked to leave. My parents decided to move forward with the estate sale against my recommendations, because it was too late to try to find somebody else. I asked Nancy to make sure that she was keeping an adequate record of every item sold, the sale price, and what each item eventually sold for. I should have been present for the sale, but unfortunately I was in Dallas looking after my mother. After the estate sale my parents received a check, along with a hand written list from a notepad of what supposedly sold, and the price. This list was a complete joke. It did not have the original pricing, it did not have the number of items, it was like a last minute jotting down of some of the contents of the house. There were numerous numerous items missing. Absolutely unprofessional. This was a large house, with very upscale and antique furnishings, and almost everything was left to be sold. Four televisions. Four full bedrooms. two living areas. Complete kitchen with appliances. My parents received a check for a little over $5000. As far as I'm concerned, this woman is not only amazingly unprofessional, but also absolutely not honest. I would steer very clear of doing business with her. I'm sure after I leave this review, she will post a personal review of my me, and I can assure you that I was never anything but respectful to this woman, even after she camped out at our house. Did I call her out on her unethical shady behavior? Yes. Was I mean spirited? No. All I can say, is what comes around goes around.

Alright, gather 'round, folks, and let me tell you about my recent pilgrimage to Emporium 1905 in…read morecharming Corsicana, Texas. Now, I consider myself and my wife connoisseurs of quaint, her a maven of mercantile, and both of us true believers in the thrill of the hunt. And oh, what a hunt it was at Emporium 1905! Before I proceed though, I want to preface that the woman who owns this establishment is a kind and gentle soul. She is generous from her heart, but my review may lead you to believe otherwise so I want to put that out there! Stepping into this establishment is like entering a time machine set to "delightfully cluttered." Every nook and cranny is overflowing with treasures, or at least, what I thought were treasures. The air hums with the scent of aged wood and forgotten stories, and my inner magpie immediately started doing a happy dance. My eyes landed on a magnificent, tarnished tin- the kind that practically begs you to discover new uses for it. "Ah!" I thought, "a perfect addition to my study, bookshelf, allowing me to ponder the joys it has seen in its years from the comfort of my armchair!" My wife approached the owner, a woman whose smile was as warm as the Corsicana sun, and inquired about its price. "Oh, that?" She chuckled, a glint in her eye. "No, no, I can't sell that. That was a gift from a customer." Mildly dejected, but undeterred, I moved on. My gaze then fell upon a vintage lighted Santa vacuform gleaming like a golden beacon. Imagine him lighting my living room! The glow on the night. I could see it almost like a sailor sees the siren sitting on a rock in the waves...This," I declared internally, "is the missing piece to my retro-chic puzzle!" Again, we approached the owner, radiating enthusiasm. "And this beautiful Santa? I asked, my voice brimming with anticipation. She patted the dusty form affectionately. "Ah, the Santa. That's for my own personal collection. Can't part with that." At this point, a pattern was emerging. A rather frustrating, yet oddly hilarious, pattern. I spotted an incredibly charming, but somewhat aged cardboard chocolate box. Perfect for our next bookshelf decor. "This old chocolate box!" I exclaimed, practically swooning. "Is it for sale?" She shook her head, a look of almost maternal pride on her face. "That? It's just on display. For ambiance, you see." Ambiance, indeed! My ambiance was rapidly turning into an internal scream of "JUST LET ME BUY SOMETHING!" The shop owner, bless her heart, was a true curator of her own desires. Everything I coveted, everything my heart yearned to bring home, was either a cherished family relic, a personal indulgence, or purely for "ambiance." I swear, if I'd expressed interest in a speck of dust on the floor, she probably would have said, "Oh, that's from my friend Frank's shoes. It's been with me for years. Wouldn't sell it for the world." I eventually left Emporium 1905 with a few small, unassuming, and decidedly un-coveted table cloths that I'm fairly certain were allowed to be sold only because the owner hadn't formed an emotional attachment to them yet. But despite the comedic frustration, I have to give it to Emporium 1905. It's a truly unique experience. Just be prepared to fall in love with a lot of things you can't have. It's less of a shop and more of a museum of one woman's very excellent taste... and yea also her unwillingness to part with things. So, if you're ever in Corsicana and you're looking for a good laugh, and perhaps a lesson in detachment, do swing by Emporium 1905. Just don't get your hopes up about buying that exquisite whatever-it-is you absolutely must have. Chances are, it's already found its forever home... with the shop owner.
