Fantastic coffee (in great colourful takeaway cups) and very friendly staff! My new favourite coffee place around Eagle St!

I have been fortunate to visit John Mills in the day for a coffee, and in the evening for a…read morecocktail. Day trip: John Mills is a bit unassuming. You have to really KNOW about it to be able to find it. There's a tiny sign off Charlotte street and you have to navigate through a building with a Koala rescue organization (and pass a giant koala) in order to find it. OR, attempt to find it off Elizabeth street. I ordered my coffee, service was good and fast, and coffee was tasty. The space isn't massive, and at the time I went there were no free bar stools, so I had my coffee to go. The cafe also sells coffee in bags so you can brew at home. Night trip: I just had to see if the cocktails matched the goodness of the coffee, and it did. My first cocktail was the Bees Knees, and it speaks for itself! It's a gin cocktail that is a bit sweet, really tasty, and has a honeycomb as garnish- what!?!?!?! My second cocktail was the Va Va Gina (Rinehart) and had vodka, lemon curd and lemon juice- also VERY good. The cocktail artist was also very attentive and always checked in on my friend and me. To sum it all up-GO HERE! You'll be glad you did!

Quaint. The coffee shop and bar are well out of sight from…read morethe streets on either side of the passage that connects them. Disability access is from the Elizabeth St side. Look for the sign boards to guide. You go here as the coffee is good and it has a pleasant vibe in a secluded spot. They have been here for a long while so doing something right. Worth exploring.

On a search for some coffee (other than at Alen's) on a weekday, I walked down George Street,…read moreoriginally heading towards Frisky Goat, which I've been meaning to try. Instead, I saw the sign for Bean, and having passed it several times, I thought, hey, why not walk through this shady looking garage and dumpster (looked like one) and see what's up? I walked up to a chalked door and a short flight of stairs down into a kitschy, cute, nicely air conditioned cafe, and was greeted by a really eccentric but friendly barista. I was just looking for a cuppa to-go, but was rather tempted to plant myself and look around. The cafe isn't big, but there is a good amount of table space, either to study at or to play the many board games that this place houses! I was quite pleased at their game selection of Cluedo, Scrabble, Jenga, and more! This is also one of the few cafes in Brisbane that provide free wi-fi. So much win! As for the coffee, I've only had their skinny latte, which I do enjoy. For Brisbane, it is definitely good - a bit bold, but not overly dark, like I find the places around here. The coffee has a bit of a fruity or nutty aftertaste - I can't quite tell (must have it again!), but I would definitely have it again. I wasn't sure if they had food to offer, as I only saw some cupcakes on display, but it looked like they might serve sandwiches... Alleyway cafes seem to be very characteristic of Brisbane's hip cafes, and although my friends know me to always find these places with shady entrances, quite a few of them turn out to be good, if not intriguing! All in all, this is one of my favorite places so far - the ambience, board games, free wi-fi, and the barista!

After going through a side alley and down a narrow staircase, was a hidden gem with a great…read moreatmosphere and great conversation with the barista. So many options to choose from, but I ordered a Chai Tea Latte with macadamia nut milk and was in heaven. 11/10 recommend

While I've been house sitting in the neighbourhood this has become my go to coffee destination. Mind you, the leather couch was low, soft and comfy. The decor features framed vinyl, artwork and various skate decks from different hardcore, metal and punk bands i.e. Amity, This is Hell, etc. I feel like this place should feature gig posters promoting the hardcore scene. I'm sure there'll be more over time. There's a few alternative music magazines on a table for reading. As a fan of hardcore music, I like this place a lot down to the graffitied walls and pin-up art. The music is loud and heavy and I like it. I can imagine a few people would complain. Not the place to come for a meaningful conversation or to write your novel. No food yet, but there's plans to get a small range of muffins to munch on along with your coffee. Coffee is currently $4 for a large. We visited around 10.30pm at night. It's popular among the police and ambos at this time of the night. I imagine during the day it's more popular for those "in the scene". Not the best coffee in the world, but nicer than any other options at that time of the night. Plus, it's a good place to wake up if you're wanting to pull an all-nighter!
