This is a combination of a 5+ for my therapist who is amazing and a zero for their office staff…read more My therapist who I would be fine giving you name if message me, is really wonderful. It's really hard to find therapy in Albuquerque and when you find a good one you keep them. The company is just not good at communication and billing. When I first had a therapist w them they said they would cancel my appt if I didn't pay my out of pocket.....of about $25. Now I have issues with them being able to create a statement of charges, payments and patient portion. They are asking me to just believe what I owe w no proof. I am blessed to have insurance to pay what it does, and I feel for that reason they are taking advantage of me.

This is a difficult review to write because my therapist at Elevation Counseling is excellent. She…read moreis the only reason I have stayed with Elevation, and I genuinely appreciate the care I receive from her. Unfortunately, the administrative and psychiatric side of the practice has been a consistently frustrating experience. This is not based on one isolated incident. Over the past eight years, I have repeatedly had to follow up about refills, appointments, scheduling mistakes, and medication being sent to the wrong pharmacy. I have had to call at least every month or two to get something corrected, and after many years, the pattern becomes exhausting. What is especially frustrating is that this does not appear to be unique to me. Other public reviews describe similar concerns with communication, scheduling, medication management, billing, and office follow-through. Several reviews also reflect the same basic contradiction I have experienced: individual therapists may be excellent, but the systems around them create unnecessary stress for patients. The most frustrating part is not just that mistakes happen. It is the lack of accountability, apology, or basic empathy when they do. This is a mental health provider. The people calling are often dealing with anxiety, depression, medication needs, and other serious concerns. When an appointment is accidentally canceled, a refill is delayed, medication is sent to the wrong place, or scheduling is mishandled, the response should be compassionate and solution-oriented, not defensive or dismissive. Most recently, I realized I was out of medication after being told I had an appointment, only to find out that the appointment had not actually been scheduled. Instead of the issue being acknowledged, I was made to feel as though it was my fault for not double-checking the work of the professionals I am paying out of pocket. The comment that "she cannot control what other people do" came across as condescending and completely unhelpful. This would be a five-star review for my therapist and a much lower review for the administrative and psychiatric support surrounding her. I would recommend my therapist without hesitation. But I cannot recommend the overall experience at Elevation Counseling unless they make serious improvements to communication, scheduling, refill support, accountability, medication-management processes, and the way patients are treated when the office makes mistakes.

Finally I was referred to Dr. Handfield so I scheduled an appointment and it was the best decision I ever made. At that time, I was very angry, fractured, and disconnected.
