The Color Lab is in a very cool building- check out some of the other proprietors for different services. My color was great and the environment was very relaxing. I wasn't sure what I wanted, and Amanda talked me through it, gave great advice, and did an excellent job. I will be scheduling cut and color next time, and will update my review. I have been looking forever since Richard Joseph and then Studio 21 both shut down, and will be back! read more

Amanda is a genius with hair color!!! When my previous hairstylist, that I had been going to for years, moved out of state, I was concerned that a new colorist would not be able to match it. Well, she matched it PERFECTLY! I was jumping for joy after my appointment!!! Not all hairdressers are a master colorist, and she is one. She actually traveled to Canada to learn this skill. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants their hair color done RIGHT! read more

What can I say? GO!! Get your color here!!! Amanda is a mad scientist of colors. Hands down the best and funkiest colors I've ever done. I truly feel like a million dollar unicorn! In all seriousness, she is amazing at her craft. She was able to get my roots to match my crazy box dye, but then went above and beyond with my prism hair color and crazy fun colors all around. She is knowledgeable and talks to you about your vision and lays out the road map of how to achieve it. Her and her sidekick Belle did a phenomenal job and I will never trust my hair to anyone else. Amanda is The Rock Star of Color! I had a horrible hair color catastrophe that I went to Amanda with. I also forgot to mention I'm getting married in two weeks. So panic mode was happening. Amanda got me in within two days and fixed my hair. I will be forever grateful to her for Saving my Hair. She is amazing and so sweet! I highly recommend her. Thanks Amanda for getting me closer to getting down the aisle without Hair Drama! If you need color go see Amanda she will Rock your World! Here are pictures from my wedding day. Amanda fixed my hair and helped get me down the aisle for my wedding last Sunday. She saved my wedding day single handily by fixing hair. read more

I chose to visit this place based on great Yelp reviews, and true to the reviews, the work Amanda does is great. I got my hair dyed from black to a medium brown; however, I came into the appointment not knowing what I wanted. Amanda does a great job of consulting and designing hair coloring (dye) options. Furthermore, she goes out of her way for you to walk out of her salon happy with your new style. read more

I had surgery and they had to shave the back of my head. Amanda was able to transform that hot mess into the cutest pixie. I have very thin fine light hair and it's very hard to cut it so it doesn't show lines. She knocked this out of the park!! read more

The experience at the Color Lab was amazing. Amanda knows very well what she is doing. Nobody in Birmingham was able to get me the results that she gave me. Not only she is great at what she does but she makes you feel super welcomed and relax. She is very gentle with the way she handles your hair which in my experience is very painful due to the knots in my hair. She is super funny and she is super flexible with schedule appointments. My hair was a mess when I found Amanda a few months ago. I showed her what I wanted the first appointment and she told me it would take a few times to get it to what I wanted because of how fine and thin my hair is which was totally okay with me. I appreciated her assessing my hair and creating a plan to make sure I got what I wanted without damaging my hair too much along the way. Each time I go, I come out loving what she has done. Also, Amanda and I have created a really nice relationship that I have never had with a hair stylist. It feels like I'm talking to a friend while getting my hair done. My hair has been a process and both of us have been so patient and now my hair goals are becoming a reality because of her! I cannot thank her enough! read more

Amanda is amazing! Not only did she give me the exact red I wanted, but she also did my daughters hair in a beautiful silver. She explained everything that she was doing in detail. She doesn't try to push expensive products on you and gives you advice on how to keep your hair color vibrant. She also talks to you while you there and gets to know you, which to me is a plus if your there for hours. Yes she may be higher than other salons but you get what you pay for and for me my hair is very important. I highly recommend her if you want picture perfect color. read more

Amanda is a fabulous colorist and stylist. I wish I had the before picture to post, she has it so maybe she will upload it so y'all can see the difference. I didn't realize how bad my hair actually was until she really got in there and showed me. I'm so glad I found Amanda!!! I've honestly never been this happy with my hair. I have found my forever stylist, that's for sure. I also adore her salon suite. It's just you and her and you can talk about whatever you want to and no one else will hear you. It's so relaxing because there isn't ten blow dryers going at one time, the phone ringing and everyone talking at once like there is in a large salon. If you don't like your hair, someone has messed your hair up, or you just want a amazing stylist book an appointment with Amanda. I promise you won't regret it and your hair will thank you. I also wanted to add that Amanda has done my hair twice now and didn't leave me waiting either time and both times her next client came in as she was finishing up my hair. Amanda values her clients and their time. Being a hair stylist is her passion and she is exceptional at what she does. Of course, no one is perfect and we've all had off days where we've ran behind all day. Life happens and I know most completely understand that. Amanda will be more then happy to give you a price on your hair before she starts, just ask her. If you've got a budget, just tell her and she will work with that. read more

Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had in a hair salon. I've never had so much damage done to my hair in my life! I've been to a couple of other salons that have done a MUCH BETTER job than Amanda. I've also used boxed dyes for a long time, and I've never had them damage my hair the way it was when I came to Amanda. Now I haven't used box dye in years, so I know all the damage isn't from that at all. My hair has been completely fried, and there is so much breakage. My beautiful thick hair has become so thinned out to the point where I sit in-front of my mirror and just cry my heart out. I've become so insecure in the way I look because of my hair, and it's so upsetting. I can't believe I spent so much money at a salon where you'd think the hair professional would know what they're doing. After coloring my hair and then washing it out a couple of times, she would NEVER use any heat protectant when blow drying it. I'm pretty positive that is what caused my hair to fry and break. I'm so upset. I should've done more research before coming here. It seems like she only knows how to do a select few kind of colors, and isn't as experienced as she thinks she is. Please, if you love your hair and want the best, DO NOT come here. read more

Amanda is a phenomenal color artist and hair stylist! My hair was naturally black, and she took the time to make sure my platinum blonde was done correctly...8+ hours! Despite all of the bleaching, she made sure my hair wasn't terribly damaged. She took amazing care of my hair's condition. I got to know her throughout the whole process too! She's personable and fun to talk to. I highly recommend her for any coloring job, especially if you want to go wild with something new. Amanda gave me a great hair style as well. Love her! To summarize it: personally after my last experience with her,I don't think she is worth paying 250$ or the 1.5 hour drive from Huntsville. She is good with color/ but is bad managing her and clients time. She spent so much time on color, both times, that there was only time to cut bangs. Also I think overlapping clients and still charging 250$ for medium length hair is ridiculous. So if you want to spent 200+$ go See a pro who has it all figured out and enough experience to manage ALL of these things. I went to see Amanda 3x. First time was for a consultation where we talked about what color/ cut I had envisioned for my wedding, 2 time was to get my hair done for the wedding which looked really beautiful, unfortunately she spent so much time on the color that there wasn't really much time left to cut much hair - she gave me a little snip here, snip there- but again the color for the wedding was beautiful. The 3 rd time I went to see her was an absolutely bad experience and the reason I don't go see her no more. First of all I drive all the way from Huntsville area (but because of the good yelp reviews thought it was worth it) which is usually a 1.5 hour drive to get there. The last time I came see her I was 3 weeks before being due and because I didn't know when I will be able to come see her again I wanted something like an balayage look to be set for a little while. When I got there she started on my color but then another client showed up- that Amanda had overlapped booking. By then she just got done coloring both sides/ she didn't even get to do the back. So she washed out the color - it didn't even have time to sit long, and had me sit there while taking care of the other client (meantime I went to get my eyebrows waxed next door). Poor, poor planning. God I should have walked out. So when she was done with the other client she went back to do my hair.. again lol I also booked time to get my hair cut when making the appointment. Guess what, after sitting there for 3 hours of my life, her son that she also had with her that day was starting to get fuzzy- so she said she couldn't cut my hair but at least she gave my bangs a trim. She didn't charge me for blowing out my hair but The price was still around the 230-240$ mark lol I actually still even gave her a little tip. I guess in the most confused situations I'm still trying to be polite. But honestly I won't go back. Also The color was not what I wanted- she put in lowlights which I thought looked ugly- I have enough dark root/ no need for lowlights in my opinion - I'm sure I could have let her know and maybe she would have offered to fix it.. idk.. but do you think I would have taken my time to drive 1.5 hours to Birmingham again and 1.5 hours back home after that experience ?!? Nope. So i thank Amanda for that experience because I now actually do my hair myself (balayage is so easy/ sweep on lightner and tone it) with the help of my husband and some tools and at least I can say it's how I wanted it. read more

Amanda is a superstar! She took my ramblings about generally wanting pink hair and made a achievable and BEAUTIFUL game plan. She worked with my current color and cut to create lovely peakaboo highlights that I am still obsessed with, without any damage or distress to my hair.
