We were in Wynnum today while the inaugural Wynnum Seafood Festival took place, but by the time we…read morearrived there throngs of festival-goers queueing up for over 5 mins just to get a feed. My sister and I weren't too impressed. By chance we decided to stroll down to the esplanade and have a wander around and came across this little gem. It seems a lot of other ex-festival people had the same idea and decided to escape the crowds and have some seafood by the sea shore. While it was super busy at the Pelican's Nest and all the outdoor seating was taken, we ventured inside to find there were no queues and we could order straight away (no 5 mins waiting in line!). We ordered the 'Treasure Chest', were given a buzzer and went outside to wait. Food was ready in under 10 mins and we decided to take away our food and walk over to the esplanade and sit in the park to enjoy our feast. The food was delicious - fish was super fresh and flaked away nicely. We also really enjoyed the prawn cutlets - nicely butterflied and cooked to perfection. I also really like the fact that the meal came with a proper side salad. All in all it was a lovely meal, and was definitely the highlight of today - after the disappointment of the festival.

We were going to go to the other fish n chips shop down the street, but they were closed. In fact,…read moremost of the shops were closed as it was a Monday, so we were only left with this option. The take-away shop has outside seating and it was extremely busy on this beautiful day. We waited about 10 mins to order and when we got up front, we put our orders in and went outside until our name was called. The plates weren't terribly expensive. Average was $17 each for a calamari and chips, a cod fish n chips, and a whole fried sea bream. Food was hot and fresh and for a take-away place, it was decent. Best part is the park across the street leading towards the Wynuum jetty. You can choose to have your food take-away and eat at the end of the pier.

Purely Passion is quite a distinctive name don't you think? I came across here recently and it is…read moresuch a great find. You can't see them from the street, you have to venture inside Manly Harbour Village but it is worthwhile. Purely Passion is a small cafe that as a great focus on quality. Don't go expecting a large range of things to buy but do go if you are looking for a high standard. I got a take away cappuccino last weekend. We had to wait a small amount of time before someone emerged from out the back but after that the service was friendly and fast. The coffee was creamy and came with a double shot. Nice! While I was waiting, I got the chance to browse the other bits and pieces for sale. They have a small range of speciality ingredients like spices, oil and mustard. There is also a few desserts including a lemon meringue that looked particularly tempting and beautifully presented.

I am nearly a fan of Purely Passion; I've browsed a couple of times but am yet to really dive in…read more One reason for this was the queue for deli goods and coffee both times I tried to get in the door, so I think that's a really good indicator when this tiny shop is surrounded by coffee places. There are gorgeous looking homemade cakes and you can order bread the way you like it. There's a good range of natural products too, and I suspect the sincere creative looking chef-fy types behind the counter were displaying something close to passion for their work as they served the fortunate ones in front of me. It looks great and I'll be back.

We only needed a quick look at the menu as we couldn't go past the Lamb Breakfast - two lamb cutlets, poached eggs, grilled halloumi, rocket and parmesan. All I can say is wow. The lamb was perfectly cooked, the poached eggs deliciously oozy, the halloumi nice and thin and not squeaky, and the rocket was impeccably dressed with shavings of parmesan and red onion to top everything off. I would definitely recommend this dish for breakfast or brunch. We've already booked in for lunch next weekend so I'm hoping their seafood offerings are on par with the lamb.

The front of the restaurant has great harbour views while the back has beautiful lighting, cosy red chairs and impressive gold mirrors. It is a great place to go if you are looking for a quality meal, rather than takeaway chips like I normally do. They do not have a huge menu, something I actually like because it usually means they do the few items really well rather than a huge number of things to an average standard. Mains include salmon, risotto, chicken and sirloin steak. I tried the risotto and it was lovely, not dry or bland at all.
