Orange Vanilla Swirl
Joey F.

This was the first time I had ice cream from The Citrus Place. My wife raved about how she would get the orange vanilla swirl when she was a little girl and I just had to try it for myself. It did not disappoint. One of the best ice cream's I've ever had!

Granddad-Approved!!! A great stop after a staycation weekend down south.

The Citrus Place is a taste of Old Florida just over the Sunshine Skyway bridge off the first exit! Phone first - lately they have been open most of year but used to be seasonal. They NOW have 6 flavors of SOFT SERVE w 3 TWIST options!!! I can attest the Chocolate /Key Lime twist is delicious, Lemon/ Blueberry was crisp and refreshing. Additionally vanilla / and of course ORANGE! They stock local produce and eggs and seafood from Tampa Bay including clams and blue crabs when the season is good. They sell some charming jewelry and household items as well as paintings and souvenirs for your loved ones back home! A sixth to the nice person who turned in my Dads wallet to the cashier who had it safe for me to pick up the next day!

This little place off the side of the highway is unassuming but well worth the stop. They have food and a bunch of local crafts that could fit most peoples taste. I found out about this place from a friend that brought a gallon of the orange ice cream to a work thing and have been meaning to come ever since. They have fresh squeezed orange juice from November to about may ish. We didn't get any since I didn't need a whole gallon but we got a key lime pie that was made that day and was delicious. It was one of the best I've had outside of key west so Vera keep doing your thing! We also got the soft serve for the key lime and orange and vanilla and really didn't disappoint so much that we got a quart to go. Sorry about the half eaten photos but Florida and ice cream and it was too good that it almost didnt get a picture. Great little place and 5/5 would recommend to a friend passing through.

I always enjoy making a stop in at The Citrus Place whenever I make the trip over the Skyway bridge. The service is always very friendly and the Cuban sandwiches are made to order with perfection. Always make sure to grab an orange/vanilla swirl cone as well.

The farm market has everything Florida you could ever need and we also brought home some orange tea cookies, monkey butter, chocolate gators, and some juicy fresh pomelos. This was such a cute find in the middle of quarantine -- Rosie is super into her produce and farm…read more She'll give you a bucket/clippers for the flower farm out front to go and clip your own. Depending on the time of year on what she's planted, sunflowers is what's prevalent now (summer). She mentioned not closing down for the summer as normal, because of everything going on- so if you have a chance, definitely stop by and support local.

Ole Rosie, where do I start?…read more I was so happy I finally caught this little market when it was open (I randomly pass by and stop, just didn't note their business hours). After a few minutes of browsing, a chipper young lady (I'm assuming it was Rosie) came to the floor, out from what looked like a deep beauty sleep. After a few moments I decided to say hello and make a little small talk "I'm so glad I caught you when you're open." The happy young woman replied "IM ALWAYS OPEN!"... I tried to explain to her how I just randomly cruise by and it's usually not during business hours, nbd. Yikes. She said it was her last day open and she was heading back to Michigan for the summer. Yes! I think to myself, this is my 'in' to get on her good side (I'm also from Michigan, us Michiganders are usually very friendly to each other!). Rosie didn't bat an eye. She rang me up, after moments of silence, I try to talk to her again and jokingly say "is that with my Michigan discount?" Her face turned from a scowl to an even more evil, menacing scowl. She proclaimed "DO I GET PROPERTY TAX DISCOUNT?!?! DO I GET A GAS DISCOUNT?!?! DO I GET A GROCERY DISCOUNT?!" I just stood there in awe.. She was right, she gets no Michigan discount, why should I?! What a horrible thing to ask her!! After being schooled, I sat there in silence. I ended up buying a honeycomb, two jars of pickled garlic, balsamic garlic herb jam, and some of what Rosie's roadside signs say are 'fresh cheese curds.' What Rosie doesn't know is my family is from the dairyland. We used to visit every summer. And guess what? Cheese curds are the first thing I buy when I get there! Fresh cheese curds are only fresh for a couple days. When I get home I ripped open the curds and took a bite. It was the worst tasting cheese I have ever tasted. I took old Rosie's word and thought they were fresh. I checked the date (after I purchased them)... The date was 2/2/2022. I bought these cheese curds on 4/22!!!! Those were not fresh. They would get tossed after a week if they were in Wisconsin. Dispite Rosie's cheery attitude, I will say I'm never going to waste my time at this place ever, don't waste yours.

Just recently they only had one vanilla frosted donut left and both my kids wanted one. Of course one wanted sprinkles and the other didn't. Without me even asking they offered to cut it in half and sprinkle half and then cut a different type of donut in half so they both had one full donut. It was hilarious and sweet all at the same time and saved me from a toddler melt down. We will continue to come back often and are so excited for the new location with the drive thru!

The cost was $7.50 for two scoops, $3.75 a scoop. My favorite ice cream store in NYC isn't even this expensive. I paid and told myself it must be made with really good ingredients for that price. I ordered the strawberry and banana crème brûlée flavors. Got to my car, tasted the ice cream. What a disappointment. The strawberry had NO FLAVOR and It had NO STRAWBERRIES. There was not one piece of strawberry in the scoop not even any seeds. It was barely even pink in color. Not sure if somebody messed up the recipe but there was no sign that this was strawberry ice cream. The banana ice cream also had no flavor and definitely no bananas or brûlée (caramelized sugar) for that matter. It was also supposed to have toffee chips which it did not. Clearly this place is lacking in quality. It's insulting to pay $7.50 for ice cream that wasn't what it was supposed to be. I had two scoops of ice cream base with no additional flavor. If the owners are ok with putting out product that is far from what they claim it to be, it's a one and done for me. My guess is they hope people order the sundaes etc loaded up with Reese's or other toppings and won't notice the flavorless ice cream. Good luck to them. UPDATE: OWNER RESPONDED saying I had the wrong business because they don't offer Reese's as a topping and that "isn't their pricing." I double checked and THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE RIGHT BUSINESS that I wrote about. My Reese's comment was a hypothetical thought. I didn't say I had it there. If the price I was charged isn't the right price, I suggest doing some research into your employees. There were 3 young kids working when I went in on Sunday evening. I WAS DEFINITELY CHARGED $7.50 FOR A CUP OF ICE CREAM WITH 2 SCOOPS. Personally I think this is not an appropriate response from the owner. How many ice cream stores offer banana crème brûlée ice cream? You know it was your store. My concern about the fact that there was no fruit or even flavor in the ice cream was not addressed. You try to write it off as my mistake and that I'm reviewing the wrong store. I'm in the food industry. This is no way to do business. Take some responsibility and or accountability. Perhaps an explanation as to why the ice cream had no fruit? Was it a bad batch? These things happen. I can understand that. Making excuses and not taking accountability, I can't deal with. If you want to have a successful business, I highly suggest you DO BETTER!
