I was freaked out on a recent trip home to see my favourite chocolate shop closed up and the interior gutted. It wasn't dead though, just waiting to be resurrected. They've expanded into the unit next door, and now it's a far nicer place to sit and sip your hot chocolate or pick up some sugar-filled nibbles. The main change is an increase in seating, and the splitting of the store in chocolate and coffee sections.Hopefully this will mean service will get quicker, especially when the Christmas rush kicks in and those chocolates start jumping off the shelves. As for a recommendation, if you can handle the sugar, get a milk and white. If you want something a bit different, the dark praline is a real treat.

Its always a nice treat to have a little chocolate with a coffee so I always opted for a coffee, although the chilli hot chocolate sounded quite intriguing. The one thing that I was not a fan of was how they made their mokaccino (I think that's how you spell it). Anyways they put a huge gob of chocolate mix that's been sitting in a crock-pot, mix it with milk (whichever you'd like - soy, regular etc) and add your shots of espresso. My girlfriend enjoys these, but one time she got a massive gob of chocolate mixture and it was like drinking a pudding - this was the one time where it was not up to standards.

The price per pound is extremely reasonable and (I would imagine) very hard to beat elsewhere. I especially like the packaging: a plastic bag inside a seperate paper bag. Mella, as you probably know, makes the most gorgeous fudge in a number of flavours and has built up quite a following in recent years. She started making fudge as a schoolchild and it was good enough to be carried by a local shop. Eventually, after trying other types of work, she began selling her fudge in to the Farmers Market in Bantry. The news spread quickly and soon she outgrew the home kitchen and now operates out of a unit in the Lisavaird Co-op in Clonakilty.
