We also spotted the numerous Michelin star decals on the door, so we knew this was the spot! We saw they had several lunch specials including 3 sandwiches. I was out with the family and all of them got the Brisket sandwich which came with a small salad, and they all ordered a side of chips as well. They all loved their sandwich which they remarked was crispy. I ordered the celeriac and chestnut soup which featured fresh local produce. It was only a starter, so I expected it to be only a cup of soup, but it was a full bowl that came with a side of freshly made sourdough bread and very nice butter. I also ordered a side of truffle parmesan potatoes which were delicious. I'm a total sucker for anything truffle, so there was no way I wasn't ordering them, but they totally delivered! They were so good! I loved my meal! It was so good! My family enjoyed their meals as well. They also had cafe lattes and hot chocolates, which both looked good to plus they each ordered dessert which they were all into as well. Overall, the 5 of us were made up with our meals. I'd happily eat here again and I highly recommend it! TIP: Go for lunch for the nice lunch specials which are only 5-7 pounds; the main meals are about 15 pounds.

Last weekend, having wanted to get away…read morefrom the hustle and bustle of Manchester City Centre for quite some time, it was decided that a foodie tour of Chester was on the cards - and this is what brought me to Joseph Benjamin for Sunday lunch. What a lovely restaurant this is. Small but cosy, we were seated on a table for two near the window. Plenty of natural light, fresh flowers on the table and a fantastic atmosphere from the get go, i knew this place was going to be great. After spending some time looking at the Sunday lunch menu, which looked fantastic and would have been amazing i'm sure, I decided to order from the full menu as there were a few dishes that most definitely caught my eye! For my starter I opted for Soup of the Day with sourdough bread. The soup was Aubergine and white onion and was incredibly creamy. Definitely one of the best soups i have had in a restaurant. For my main course I opted for the Cod Cheeks with shrimps, curried cauliflower, spinach and a raisin puree. It was very very nice. The cod cheeks were cooked to perfection and had so much flavour! Not at all overpowered by the curried cauliflower, which was so very tasty too! However, half way through the dish i noticed coriander with the spinach underneath the cod cheeks, and whilst this would be an amazing accompaniment for most people, I really can't eat coriander - although i really really wish i could!! Neil C, after demolishing half of his Pigeon and Hare Bourguignon with parsley mash, very kindly offered to swap. This turned out for the best as he got to try some of my dish, which i'm sure he had been eyeing up from the start! He seemed to enjoy it as much as i was. His bourguignon was great too - the pigeon and hare giving off the most amazing of dark flavours and the mash, although it was green!!. was creamy, fluffy and light. I couldn't pass on the opportunity to try a desert, so i went for the Coconut Rice Pudding with mango and lime. It has been years since I had rice pudding and it was just as amazing as i remembered. Hot, thick, creamy, gloop with a sweet taste of the coconut contrasting with the zingyness of the mango and lime on top. Just incredible. Overall i cannot fault the food, service, place, anything!! - The experience was outstanding from beginning to end! I would go to this restaurant again and again.

What a revelation!…read more We had booked a table for a late lunch at 3pm on a Wednesday. From the off this place had class. It has a very apt bistro feel to it. Everything is top quality; from the glassware to the napkins to the toilets - which were incredible - boudoir style, curtain entry, Thomas Crapper pull chain loo, proper towels (!!!), there was even a luxurious corner seat incase you fancied a sit down somewhere else in the room. We ordered the special; rump, chips and a parmesan & black pepper dressed salad. In the short wait we were offered house-baked baguette and butter. The salads arrived - a lovely mix of leaves with generous shavings of parmesan and a creamy peppery dressing. A trough of fries followed (to share between us) and then smoking skillets carrying perfectly cooked steaks. My parents commented on every single brilliant song in the playlist that accompanied our tasty steak meal. Wearing my favourite Fleetwood Mac tshirt, I sat with a mouth full of juicy rump steak and listened to one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac songs. Heaven.

Wow. Just wow. Was…read morewandering around Chester with some friends one afternoon. I'm from California & live in Toronto, Canada - you can tell Californians because when we live other places we whine about not getting a good burrito. Yes, but I'm in Chester - I wasn't expecting anything or trying to emulate 'home' - we were just walking by & a bit hungry so we popped in thinking it'd be kitschy & cool. Wow. Srsly. The food is a mixture of cuban, spanish, mexican, brazilian, etc. I had a burrito. I would actually rate the burrito a bit better than most of what passes in Toronto. The service was awesome, even tho I hadnn't quite tuned my 'English' ears yet (was needing translation). However the margarita was world-freakin-class. I was expecting some sort of margarita mix/tequila mixture, but it honestly tasted like fresh lime and tequila - like an authentic margarita. It - was- awesome. I doubt I'll have many chances to visit Chester again, but if I do, I'm totally hunting down this place. For expats who might be in the area: check this out for your burrito fix! Wait, now I want to visit Chester again soon and get all around their menu. nom nom nom

There are also non-alcoholic cocktails like Raspberry Ripple too, I plumped for an interestingly titled cocktail called 'Dave'. They all come in fancy glasses so you can do your best Del-Boy impression with the parasols and cherries! They are not cheap though at £5+ for some, so perhaps a place to visit for one round only. There is also a dance-floor in the centre of a good size, which I'm sure was packed later in the evening. Fiesta Havana also does food too, but although we enquired the wait time was too long, by virtue of its popularity. The dishes that came past us looked tasty and were predominantly tapas.

About last night…read more.. We REALLY enjoyed this meal. We started with mushroom arancini, focaccia, oxtail stew, and seriously, all three were amazing!! I've never had ox anything, and I'm a believer now... I had beef burg for my main, hubby had the venison and dad had the halibut and all three were simply fantastic! All were perfectly tender, lean, and full of flavor with sides that complimented them perfectly. And the desserts.. chocolate lava cake with salted caramel ice cream and dad had the sticky ginger cake and dad and hubby truly enjoyed these final courses. The chocolate cake surprised us when Mark cut into it and a lovely ganache poured out.. dad said the sticky ginger cake was light, not too sweet, but nice flavor. We were beyond stuffed, but even dad said "you found a gem with this place!" We would definitely return here regularly if we lived in England!! Service was really good! Our servers were friendly and attentive. They always asked how everything was with each course and everything was correct. Even though it was packed, and there were two of them, they did a great job staying on top of everything! The ambiance... it's too packed for such an amazing experience. They will be moving and good thing because they are going to need the extra room!! It was a bit hard to hear each other when it was a full house, but when half the room cleared, it was really pleasant. Overall, best food and service experience we've had in the two weeks we've been in England, hands down. And if we lived here, this is where we would take friends and family to "wow" them!
