From the moment you walk into this bookstore, you feel excited. It doesn't even have a traditional…read morebookstore smell. Maybe the vast number of vinyl records balances out the dusty paper. (Which I do love BTW) This store has one of the most intuitive layouts I've ever encountered in a bookstore, and the selection, wow! After making all of my selections, I spoke to the owner for a bit. He seems to have a passion for finding everything interesting and unique. What a nice guy! I tried to keep it reasonable and only bought four books, but I already have plans to go back, and I reached out to friends who are in the area to see if there's anything they need! It seems more critical now than ever to have as many books as you can so that we don't lose history.

Love how the price label has additional info about the condition of the vinyl. Pricing was about right. Saw some good deals, some that might be a tick high, but nothing crazy. And to support a local shop, most definitely worth it. But what really struck me was how friendly the staff were. I overheard one of the employees helping a customer and giving them really good advice, not only on selection, but how to care for their vinyl. Thoughtful! As I was checking out, they noticed my selection and next thing I knew we were talking about the band, their previous tour, their upcoming concert, etc. Another customer even joined in the convo. Fun! This place will definitely be a regular stop for me. Plus, living in Folsom, I think they're the closest to me .. bonus!

Everyplace I walked, there was a blend of past and present. PlayStation 4 & 5 games, alongside rows of nostalgia that ranged in clothes, toys, accessories, movies, you name it. This store embodies 90s pop culture, and not the hip hop side, but more the alternative (which is what I felt more represented me). I found a dvd I've been looking for months, in just a matter of minutes. The movies are all alphabetized, yo! It's like a thrift store, but so much more. I really liked that the Folsom location had a way bigger selection of Funko Pops than the Arden location. There is so much stuff to look through in general at this location, since it's roomier. I specifically scoured the shelves for some Funko Pops to take home, and came across the cutest Jurassic World one (shown below) that I just needed to buy. I also discovered a beautiful Elvis Funko, but that one I decided to hold off on for now. My husband bought a Mewtwo Funko as well (not shown). Most of the Funkos were in really good condition. There was a Stranger Things Funko that I really wanted but alas the previous owner had damaged the box. From a collector's standpoint, the prices are fair. Of course this location had other collectibles and items for sale, such as clothes, records, and whatnot. I've got plenty of records at home and only want to purchase very specific records these days, so I didn't really bother to look in their record aisles. The staff were friendly and chill. I will definitely return to check for more Funko Pops in the near future!

You can pickup some cheap vinyl outside, or you can go in and peruse a small but decent selection. I was able to get an interesting colored vinyl variant of Aesop Rock's "Daylight" EP while I was there at a reasonable price, and was also able to have a conversation about said record with the guy working. It felt like an old school genuine record store vibe, which is disappearing and appreciated. They have a lot of junk - in the most loving way - that you may want to get, like collectible toys. Not so much of the Funko Pop variety, but more like actual toys you might remember playing with - like He Man and the Masters of the Universe, or The Simpsons figures. I like that more than the "everything is still in a box and not meant to actually be enjoyed" variety, so this place is cool there. It's a nice little place to swing into to just look around, maybe pick up a record, and have a cool convo. Can't complain about any of that.

That was my mistake for taking him at his word and believing it was an earned points club like at Old Navy, Famous Footwear, etc. In hindsight, I still cant really say if the kid knows he is selling subscriptions, or if he genuinely believes it's an earned points system. Also, canceling the subscription was a pain because of course customer service is handled out of country by an automated systems that make it nearly impossible to speak to anyone. I had to eventually just put a "stop payment" via my credit card company. This is a bummer review because I really wanted to like FYE. But I will never shop here again. Back to Mad Monk I go.

This is my first time back since Tom retired and the new owners took over. The storefront is great and the place is warm and welcoming. I love this little used bookstore, and I really love supporting small women-owned businesses. I bought a couple of books, several cool stickers, and a couple of DVDs for my dad. By April, they anticipate expanding to take over the shopfront on Sutter and Riley Street as well as keeping its current space.They will have even more inventory. Awesome!
